JadedLady 0 #2 December 29, 2003 College days? How long ago was that? First thing I would do is check the statute of limitations in Florida. bean 0 #4 December 29, 2003 Thanks! I got sent to a credit collections company and blew them off about two years ago after I lost my job. Thought stupidly that it would go away but was wrong. Friday I got a late Christmas gift in the form of a certified letter from New Jersey.... Swoo Rodriguez #1020, LawnDart, AR #
ScubaSteve 0 #5 December 29, 2003 Maybe you should make payment arrangement s with the creditor. I had a hard time with a card in the same situation as you. I started mailing reasonable payments in monthly and they made a deal with me to close the account. It will still haunt you if you want to buy something. Besides, it should be easier to do with a college degree. In addition, the better employers always query the applicant's credit history to help determine one's attitude and philosophy. PhillyKev 0 #7 December 29, 2003 Not to mention credit history affecting your auto insurance rates, or even insurability. Those with bad credit are considered higher risk of commiting insurance fraud. I didn't stay at a holiday inn express last night, but my legal advice would be to figure out some way to pay it so that they drop the suit.
lawrocket 3 #8 December 29, 2003 You've been summoned. They last thing you can do is nothing. You've gotta go to court. Fortunately, it's probably small claims or limited jurisdiction, since it is only $5k. That means less legal fees, hopefully. The other issue is this one - what the hell is the difference between a judgment for 5k and debt of 5k. There is none. Why not negotiate with the attorneys. This is an unsecured debt, and the credit companies know it. So, do what you can to alleviate some of it. This can be done wihout court intervention. My wife is hotter than your wife.
