Sheenster303 0 #26 December 31, 2003 QuoteWell then add TWO years at the beginning!! If you add two years at the beginning then the kids would start Kindergarten at 3 years old and they would still graduate at 17. I think starting Kindergarten at 3 years old would be more of a babysitting job than actual teaching. Might as well just get rid of preschool if they are going to do that.I'm so funny I crack my head open! P.M.S. #

happythoughts 0 #34 December 31, 2003 If they want to shorten the time spent in school, why not eliminate 4th grade. That would shorten it by 3 years.
FliegendeWolf 0 #35 December 31, 2003 QuoteI just heard on the news that schools around the United States are thinking about eliminating 12th grade. They said they are planning on adding a year at the beginning so that children start at the age of 4 instead of 5. Has anyone heard anything about this? I tried to find news stories online but I can't find a thing. What are your thoughts about the whole deal? If they remove one year at the end and add one year at the beginning, then wouldn't that make the last year of school...12th grade? They only have 10 fingers down there (i they are lucky). I suspect that's the REAL reason for the propsed change. They got sick of saying (I'm in the grade after the grade after 10th). aneblett 0 #37 December 31, 2003 Sounds like a creative way to babysit 4 year olds! I grew up in a system that ended at Grade 11 and where we started at age 5. After moving I had to do Grade 12 and found that it was a useless year in terms af academics as I had seen everything before. Age You know, I think that 12th grade is a year for all the kids who didn't do well in the other grades to catch up to the smarter ones. Meanwhile, the smarter ones have nothing new to learn. So, it's either be nice to the slower moving students or make them repeat the 11th grade.I'm so funny I crack my head open! P.M.S. #

headoverheels 334 #42 January 2, 2004 When my mother went to school in Georgia, there were only 11 grades. Since she also started early, when her best friend did, she graduated at age 15. I went to school one summer, took a year of English, and graduated a year early, effectively skipping 11th grade. These days, Geogia public schools are better than their California counterparts. WOOHOO!!!! Go Georgia! Even though we have the 50th worst test grades in the country. Yes, that does mean we are the absolute worst! How sad it is.......... But I also know people who graduated in 11th grade by doubling up on their academic classes in 9th, 10th and 11th grade. They didn't take all that fluff like drama and art. I, on the other hand, wanted to enjoy high school and I took the fluff. I took lots of fluff, but I also took higher level academic classes. There weren't that many in my school who had AP classes so I got to be really close with everyone who did. We had to see each other's face all day long, so we had to get along. I took drama throughout my hs years and I took Spanish to learn to become fluent. I ended up taking 5 years of Spanish and now I can't remember a thing. And you know what? I would do it again. I loved high school and I wouldn't want to lose a whole year of it. I love college a WHOLE lot more, but high school is still dear to my heart.I'm so funny I crack my head open!
