labrys 0 #1 January 4, 2004 Inspired by the "3 doors" post: 3 people on a long road trip decide to stop and get a hotel room for the night and share the expense. When they check in the desk clerk tells them the room is $30.00. They each give him $10.00 and go to the room. The next morning, the hotel manager comes in and tells the desk clerk that the room was only supposed to be $25.00. He gives the clerk $5.00 in single bills and asks him to drop off the refund on his way out. The clerk can't figure out how to split the 5 bills between 3 people so he only gives them $3.00 and he keeps the other $2.00 So: If each person paid $10.00 for the room for a total of $30.00 and then got $1.00 back, they each paid $9.00 for the room, or a total of $27.00 The clerk pocketed $2.00. $27.00 + $2.00 = $29.00 What happened to the other dollar?Owned by Remi #? jimmytavino 16 #6 January 4, 2004 ....... kept the extra dollar!!!!!!!!! ... no really... something is flawed in the wording.... the guests did NOt spend 27 dollars "for the room" they spent 27 dollars for the 25 dollar room and two more for the clerks pocket.... equals 27.... the balance of 3 dollars which was refunded,,, comes off the 30$$$$,, "incorrect" fee which was charged when they checked in....I think that the "missing dollar" is a phantom $ which was generated by arithmatic mumbo jumbo...... I think i.e. they spent 27 dollars total... the clerks take was part of their 27 $$$ expenditure and then the remaining 3 dollars was the refund.........since they did put 30 dollars into the "kitty" to start this whole thing......By the way..... Why are there NEVER any 25 dollars hotel rooms located where I go?????????? hahahaha ( edited for spelling)
tunaplanet 0 #7 January 4, 2004 How can it not be a 50/50 chance of the prize being behind the door when there are only 2 curtains left and it's behind one of them? Forty-two

Kris 0 #9 January 5, 2004 The $2 should be subtracted from, not added to, the $27 to get $25 paid for the room. There is no missing dollar.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
