Airviking 0 #1 January 28, 2011 Someone is selling a "Prestige" rig in the classifieds. If it's so prestigious, why can't I find any info on it?I believe you have my stapler.
likestojump 3 #2 January 28, 2011 all you need to do is plug in "prestige container" RESULT : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=513169 in short it's a waste of money. And it's one of the "other" 2 pin reserve containers. You post a few new threads every week, most looking for redundant info. Please try to use the SEARCH function more, it's your friend. And it gives you instant gratification.
pchapman 280 #3 January 28, 2011 Adventure Loft Prestige, introduced 1990, from Texas. Found it in Poynter vol II. ... and just about nowhere else I would imagine. (Who knows, maybe someone from that area would disagree.) Ancient, and I think the company disappeared long ago.
likestojump 3 #4 January 28, 2011 it looks a lot like the original Talon here's a pic of one with a DOM of 1995
Ron 10 #5 January 28, 2011 Quotein short it's a waste of money And you base that on?????? It is no worse than any other rig from the 90's. The one in the classifieds seems like a pretty good deal for a first rig."No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers,

The one in the classifieds seems like a pretty good deal for a first rig. I base it on resale value and availability of spare parts and support. We can also mention the "WTF is this" factor when travelling to most places outside Houston/Dallas :) Also $1500 for a '91 Prestige with '94 Falon and a '94 Rascal 202 is fairly overpriced in my opinion. And being that I sell gear for a living, I think my opinion is fairly accurate :)
riggerrob 643 #7 January 28, 2011 Prestige reserves pack more like Swifts or early Mirages, because they are held closed by two pins. Two pins also means a more expensive AAD.

I can mention that I bought my first rig in 1991 for 1500 and it was not as nice as the one listed in the classifieds. Now I have not bought used gear in a while.... But I don't see that as a bad deal... If this were a 91 Javelin.... michalm21 2 #9 January 28, 2011 I know you didn't ask me, but I will chime in. I would buy it as a second rig to do water jumps (lol) and for no more than $500 for all. And I think I would still be overpaying, but that's just me
beowulf 1 #10 January 28, 2011 Those rigs were made by John Stanford who sold Adventure Loft to John Storrie. Prestige containers haven't been made in a long time. RiggerLee used to work for John Stanford and helped build those rigs. He would know a lot about htem.

There are a few for sale on the classifieds between $250-$350 - so that's the baseline for the canopy price. There's a single Rascal in the classifieds right now which is listed at $400 and has been up for over a month. It will probably sell for less. This leaves, at the very least $750 for the container. Surely you don't think that the Prestige is worth anywhere close to that ? If the container was a '91 Javelin, I still would claim it's overpriced. That Javelin would still most likely need some mods done to it, and would still be older.. Although, it would have tuck tab riser covers :)
FreeflyGoat 0 #12 January 29, 2011 What's a prestige? My first rig :-) Prestige with a Sabre 190 and PD-196 and a Cypres. Worked great for my first 200 jumps. I paid about $2000 back in 1998. I would value that setup at about $1000 today._________________________ goat derka jerka bukkake jihad

In additon to being an extremely knowledgeable master rigger John does own the rights to this container. If I'm not mistaken, he told me that he destroyed all the templates for the container, freebag, etc and does not intend to support it. But don't trust my memory. beowulf 1 #14 January 31, 2011 Or at least he could direct them to Stanford or Lee who could help answer any questions. Stanford has retired from rigging and Lee is in Austin and spending most of his time on a sail boat from what I have heard.

At the time, he had a new container he had been working on. As he told me, he waited too long and the 'Wings' beat him to the punch. the container John was building was the spittin' image of the 'Wings'. If, Im not mistaken, he quit making containers to make camera vests for outdoor photographers. Very interesting man! Chuck
