Go ahead. Tell me an embarrassing story about your gramma, it may be better. ;)

OK, once upon a time my grandma spelled her title with an "nd" rather than an "m." :D:D:D Damn, I'm funny; I kill myself.:D:D

also...many people don't know:
~ the 'T' in 'often' is Silent
~ it should be pronounced 'offen'

Actually

Webster's Unabridged dictionary states that both pronunciations are correct thank you.

quote from Webster's "Often was pronounced with a T sound until the 17th century, when a pronunciation without the t became predominate in the speechof the educated, in both North America and Great Britain, and the earlier pronunciation fell into disfavor. Common use of a spelling pronunciation has since restored the t for many speakers and now both pronunciations exist side-by-side. Although it is sometimes critized by the pompous, often with a T is now so widely heard again from educated speakers that it has become fully standard once again."

If you take the "gh" from "enough", the "o" from "women", the "ti" from "nation"...

String them together as "ghoti", you can pronounce it as "fish". Of course, if you write someone an email about all the "ghoti" that you caught, no one would understand you... ;)

I'm ok with misspellings as long as the meaning gets there.

I hate it when people say, "I could care less." It's, "I couldn't care less."

How many times do I gotta tell you people?

Actually either is acceptable. "I could care less." is short for "I could care less, but it's not worth the effort, because I don't care."

Your "explanation" is just an excuse for poor logic and poor grammar.

Did Webster really use the word "predominate"?

And when folks say, "Let's flush out this project," when it is "flesh" - as in to put meat on the bones, not flush it down the toilet.

One of my former co-workers, when asking to use the department's lap top, would always ask for the lab top ... for the life of me I couldn't figure out how she'd put that dog on her desk ... ;)

LOL...I'm a self-proclaimed grammar nazi.

Here's one that's been bugging me lately. People say, "I wouldn't step foot in there," when the actual expression is "I wouldn't set foot in there."

Apostrophe use and word mispronunciation get me, as well. Every time I hear our esteemed president say the non-existant word "Nucular" I want to reach through the TV and strangle him. :S

Oh lighten up or I'll sick treetop on you!
I wonder if he's like Beetlejuice - call his name 3 times and he shows up?
TREETOP
TREETOP
TREE-

I think he'd last about half a paragraph before the greenies got him.

Back to the topic, I don't typically use either, unless to make a point about grammar. I either keep it simple "I don't care", maybe with an optional "really" in there, or "I don't give a [someting rude]".

If you don't believe me, ask me.

Ba ha ha - Mel arrogant - that's funny. Someone who would refer to you as arrogant, in some fashion, doesn't know the Mel that the rest of the world knows. I don't think you have an arrogant bone in your teeny body.

I think I just hijacked my own thread. :S

It's like a physics text, you aren't using the first edition, are you? I do think I get better with each re-telling though. Not like that stinkin' Shakespeare, you have to read another book to figure out what he's talking about. Talk about grammar problems. :o

Maybe I could get a job translating English into Southern. ;)
