AirMail 0 #2 December 8, 2003 I got mine at Square1. As long as you don't put too much in the outside pocket it will fit in the overhead.-- It's never too late to have a happy childhood. Postal Rodriguez, Muff 3342
Hooknswoop 19 #3 December 8, 2003 I got mine from Aero Tech and recommend it. Very well built and the zip-off back pack is great for flying. I keep everything I need in it and shove the rig in the over-head. Derek
bch7773 0 #4 December 8, 2003 I personally just bought a small dufel bag from a military surplus store. you can't put it on your back like a backpack, but it was only $20. thats perfect for college students MB 3528, RB 1182

vt1977 0 #6 December 8, 2003 Quotei dont really know when traveling if i should carry anything else in my gear bag besides my rig. Hey Alana, When I’m travelling with my rigbag I always take all my docs out and put them in my hand luggage together with my helmet, alti, audibles etc. I usually leave my jumpsuit in the rig bag and then wrap the whole lot up inside an extra sleeping bag for extra protection and maybe a towel or some t-shirts for extra padding too. I also secure the reserve handle with a pull up cord just in case it gets knocked in transit – NB – use a pull up cord a very different colour to your container/harness as you really wouldn’t want to forget to take it off… Vicki
AggieDave 6 #7 December 8, 2003 Don't buy a "gear bag" they're worthless IMHO. Go to Walmart/K-mart and you'll find some nice large zipper duffels with wheels and lots of pockets and lots of room. The one i have has enough room for my rig, my helmet, my jumpsuits, my IRM, SIM, jump shoes, logbook, alti, as well as extra room for my hook knives, my...well, you get the picture. Oh, I paid a whopping $30 for my bag and it's lasted me for almost 2 years now. A friend of mine has a cool No-Fear Motocross bag that holds everything and even has room for 8-heads left over.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." mirochristie 0 #8 December 8, 2003 Actually,...a friend of mine bought his from Eg and it is soooooooooooooooo comfortable!!..... My gear bag sucks!,...my back hurts, I feel on my back every single thing in it. I don`t think skydivers should have too much weight on shoulders or back from carrying cheap gear bags. Our backs suffer enough with our daily routine, exercise, or sleeping in a bad matress.... Check: http://www.Egsky.com These gear bags are so padded and commfy...I WANT ONE!!!LiquidSky @(^_^)@

It eliminates the possibility of forgetting to remove it before jumping. Derek
dropoutdave 0 #11 December 8, 2003 Gear bags are a total skank. They are just calling it a 'gearbag' and jacking up the price. Same goes for the price of jumpsuits. The majority of them are, in essence, just suped up overalls and that somehow seems to warrant charging $200 plus for them. These guys are making a killing. A good friend of mine paid 260 pounds for a jumpsuit and to be honest, it's just shit and not even worth 50 quid. From a reputable company too. Grr rant over, sorry. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......
alanab 0 #12 December 8, 2003 what would you suggest instead?
dropoutdave 0 #13 December 8, 2003 I suggest that someone who knows how to sew goes into business and makes good quality jumpsuits for reasonable prices and undercuts the companies that are charging the earth for shoddy pieces of work. I suggested it to my mums best friend whos a seamstress but she loves making her wedding dresses too much but she was appauled when I showed her my friend jumpsuit and told her the price of it. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces...... alanab 0 #14 December 8, 2003 im talking about a gear bag for traveling... not a jumpsuit!
dropoutdave 0 #15 December 8, 2003 Doh! Erm, just get a bin liner. Cheap and cheerful. Just shop around, there's plenty of suitable bags out there that are much better quality than your average gear bag. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces...... rehmwa 2 #16 December 8, 2003 We have square1 bags because they came with the gear. They are fine. But anything will do. I just carry on the rig, supporting docs for the TSA, and a book to read all in one bag. All else gets checked. The reserve handle is always tied with the chest strap. If you can fit the rig in a normal carryon suitcase, you are set. Or any bag that's sturdy that your rig fits in is good. So a backpack or day bag is fine. If you make one of your own, do it like you were making a suit. I mean strong. Use strong material (like cordura) and high grade rigger's thread. (Alana - sorry to go off topic, but "suit's" - my wife made FF suits for a while, a couple hundred bucks is pretty reasonable for a custom suit (custom colors, patterns, tie dye, etc.) - but way expensive for just a simple off the rack type. Consider that custom needs a pattern to be made, coloring done, sewing, assembly). Also, Supplex is expensive, even a good demin. So is the right kind of thread. So materials is anywhere from $50 to 100, plus a day or two of labor, then you see that $200-$250 is pretty cheap for a home business). And an RW suit is much harder..... ... rehmwa 2 #17 December 8, 2003 oh - some people just tie up the legstraps and handles and carry the rig directly and pretend it's a backpack. I don't think this is a good thing (come up with your own reasons). But, to each his own. ... jb092 0 #18 December 8, 2003 I went to Wallmart and bought luggage. It is hardsided with wheels and an extemtion handle so I can be lazy. It is carry on size and I can fit my rig, helmet and jumpsuit in it no prob. I have traveled with it many, many, many times and never have had a problem. What could possibly go wrong? alanab 0 #20 December 15, 2003 so, what's the concensus here? for traveling to eloy on delta, should i just get some random military duffle and use that as my carry-on for my rig and save myself some money or what?

You could just walk with the rig, TSA has specific instructions on what to do with a parachute now - they are allowed. I"m walking with my birdman gear bag which has "birdman" written on the back of it.
