falxori 0 #1 January 11, 2004 http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Central/01/10/airport.security.ap/index.html Quote Soldier carrying land mine kicked off flight TSA screeners noticed the land mine Friday, pulled the bag from the luggage system at Denver International Airport and confiscated the mine, TSA spokesman Mike Fierberg said. No flights were delayed. The soldier, whose name was not released, could face civil penalties for trying to put a prohibited item aboard a flight, Fierberg said. No criminal charges would be filed, he said. The man was released by police, but the airline refused to allow him aboard his flight to Dallas, Fierberg said. i can understand people who forget to take out a pocket knife before going on a flight , but a land mine?!?!?! o "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." DJL 235 #2 January 11, 2004 This is just more bullshit that the US government is laying on us. I used to bring landmines as carry-on all the time. They may great door stops or shoe scrapers."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
sdgregory 0 #3 January 11, 2004 I personally take a landmine with me everywhere. They are great for hemmorhoids. Gets rid of them with one blow.
slug 1 #4 January 11, 2004 This is america we have every right to be as stupid as we want to be. At least the mine was inert. I live by a airport that's the gateway to Alaska, where there's wilderness, very cold large tree's, people have to cut wood for fuel to build fire's in their stove's to stay warm in the winter. A female passenger was disapointed when she was not allowed to take her chain saw with her as carry on baggage onto the airplane. The chain was on the machine and the fuel tank had gasoline in it. With the gasoline in the machine it couldn't even be checked in as baggage. R.I.P.

freeflir29 0 #6 January 11, 2004 Yeah....saw the story of a guy in South America trying to board with LIVE hand grenades in his carry on. From what the cops could figure out he had no evil intentions towards the plane or passengers. He just wanted to take his "souveniers" home.
Vertifly 0 #7 January 11, 2004 Gee, that is pretty bad. I once was severely reprimanded for just carrying an M-16 (while it was unloaded and in my trunk) just off of Marine base to fill up my gas tank. Seems to me that a land mine on a commercial airline (not to mention the publicity that it caused) is a more serious issue.
ChileRelleno 0 #8 January 11, 2004 Who's stupider, the soldier or the TSA & Airlines? The mine was inert....... It could not, repeat not, go KABOOM! It was harmless. Then they won't allow the soldier on the flight because he packed a harmless souvinier in his luggage, confiscate the damn thing if you must and send him on his way. The dagblasted thing was inert, defused, lacking a exsplosive charge.... as in no explosive potential! ChileRelleno 0 #11 January 11, 2004 Very true, I see your point. But then to deny passage.... Well Ok he made a pain in the arse out himself and I'd probably have given him a hard time too. falxori 0 #12 January 11, 2004 QuoteWho's stupider, the soldier or the TSA & Airlines? i still say the soldier. i was once stopped for a plastic water gun that looked like an Uzi... at this day and age when everybody knows how sensitive the TSA ppl are, it pretty stupid to pack a mine, even if its inert. not every TSA screener is a bomb expert (we all know that part well ) O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
