Among those Republicans that have connections to the C of CC is Pat Buchanan, who has written for their newspaper the Citizens Informer, which boasts Buchanan friend Sam Francis as an editor. Buchanan is also a friend of Jared Taylor, who among other things pushes the notion that people of African decent is genetically inferior. In 1996, Buchanan's campaign for president hit a snag when it was revealed that his campaign manager Gun Owners of America head Larry Pratt spoke at the Phyllis Schlafly, who also has connections with the C of CC. Racist columnist Ann Coulter, who has been among those who likes to bring up Byrd's Klan past, has herself been known for quoting white supremacist, holocaust denier and anti-Semite Joseph Sobran, yet another C of CC staple, speaking at a number of their conferences. Whenever she is attempting to blame Africans for American slavery, she notes a factually incorrect line from Sobran that slavery was the only African institution America has ever exported. The Newsmax article notes Hannity making clear that Senators Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms were not in the Klan, but typical of Hannity and Newsmax they were playing dumb. While there is no evidence Thurmond and Helms were in the Klan, they were active segregationalists and has a well-documented history in that regard. Thurmond as a judge around the same time Byrd was in the Klan even sent a young African-American boy to his death when as a judge the case of the boy killing his boss in self-defense came to his court. Thurmond neglected to advise the jury that they can clear the boy if they felt it was self-defense. The boy was found guilty and executed. Helms had been a major source of racist contention for decades. Not surprisingly, he has attended C of CC meetings. Turner had been under fire for his racist leanings at the time, and now he is a major supporter of white supremacists on his shortwave radio program.
