Guest #1 January 12, 2004 Sent this message to "Mail Call"-- --------------------------------- Sirs, I'd like to offer a big "Thank You" to R. Lee Ermey and the "Mail Call" production staff for #40, "The Golden Knights". As a sport skydiver, it's very pleasing for me to see parachuting operations potrayed realistically on television, which is unfortunately the exception, rather than the rule. Ermey's description of the Army's parachute demonstration team and their role was well-spoken. Further, his narrative about the tandem parachute system he jumped with was concise and accurate. Ermey's no-nonsense approach to this sophisticated topic is a welcome change from the dramatic silliness normally associated with skydiving portrayals on television, and reflects great credit upon himself and the production staff of Mail Call. Well done! Mark Harju Secretary & Webmaster Seattle Skydivers Inc., est.1954 www.seattleskydivers.org ------------------------- mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." Guest #12 January 12, 2004 Ermey is the host of the show, but it's the production staff that does all the homework. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
AggieDave 6 #13 January 12, 2004 I'm going to have to do the same, that was one seriously squared away view of skydiving. QuoteErmey is the host of the show, but it's the production staff that does all the homework. I bet he knows a bit, though. He was an actual Gunny in the Marines and was an actual DI. Even though he's most known for his roll in Kubrick's film.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

mnischalke 0 #17 January 12, 2004 Aaaaactually, he was a Marine Corps staff sergeant (Rank E6) and was medically retired after 11 years of service. "Gunny" (term of endearment for Marine gunnery sergeants--Rank E7) is what he became known as because of his role in FMJ. According to his bio, he is an "honorary" gunnery sergeant (Edit: May 17, 2002), for whatever that's worth. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills. Yeah the only thing that sucked was that it was too short. But hey Minny Lee executed a good PLF and made it all worth while.
AggieDave 6 #21 January 13, 2004 Heh, I'll be damned, I didn't realize that he was only a Staff Sergeant. Then again "only", like that's easy to get to anyways.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

AggieDave 6 #25 January 13, 2004 Right. I was being sarcastic saying it was easy. I've known quite a few Marines.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
