Astros signed....

Recommended Posts

The Rocket - Roger Clemens for 1yr 5 mill. I bet Steinbrenar (sp) is fuming!! The guy retires from baseball as a Yankee, loosing the World Series. Now he's an Astro in Houston Texas.

Personal take on this. The Astros have alot of players going to be leaving the club next year due to contracts, age, etc... So this is a last ditch effort to win the big one. I hope like hell they can pull it off.

This is great news!!! Looks like McClane might be trying to put together a team that might win, rather than one that might make him money. Should be a fun season to watch!

Now I just don't understand why they got rid of Wagner. I guess they needed money for these big name pithers.

Roger Clemens

"Roger Clemens was a great warrior for the Yankees -- a teacher and a leader," Yankees owner George Steinbrenner said in a statement. "He told the world he was retiring, and we had no choice but to believe him."

Ya I think he's pissed.. Since we've already gotten Andy Pettitte from the Yankees.. Poor George

Man that's crazy. After watching him "pitch in his last game ever" on FOX. The way that his wife and him were talking after the game and shit, I thought for sure he was done.

Not the best news I've ever heard being a Cubs fan and all... [:/] But it'll be nice to see the Rocket around for another year.

Now I just don't understand why they got rid of Wagner. I guess they needed money for these big name pithers.

Personaly I think Wagner did it to himself. He openly criticized the Astros management in the media. This coinciding with him going to make 9mil for the 04 season. I think mgt had, had enough and dumped him for the cash returns. Then they went straight out and signed Andy P.

Dotel the setup man for Wagner isn't as good a closer as Wagner is, but seriously this guy can shut down an ining. He was able to close out the 8th before Wagner came in. So the Astros will probably be moving him to the closer spot, pay him less money and not have to listen to Wagner spew dissent about the mgt..

Don't get me wrong I hated to see Wagner go just about as much as anyone else in Houston. Maybe his woke mgt up with some of his comments *shrugs* to go out and field a winning team. Jeff Kent (2nd basemen) along with a few others on the team have openly spoken up about the way McLane was milking the team and not opening the bank to get some decent players on the roster. This looks to me like a last ditch effort to get the World Series. It's not going to be easy..

Look out Cubbies, Cards and any other team in the NLC!! Astros have some big guns now :D

Now that he's a National Leaguer and has to bat, I'm looking forward to seeing Roger get a couple of "purpose pitches" thrown his way:)

If a deal can be worked out I have a hunch that he will be wearing cardinal red next season

No way.. He's from Houston, one of the reasons he's come out of retirement is he's got a clause when he's not on the rotation, he's able to go watch his son play ball. Meaning he doesn't have to be at games he's not going to pitch in.

Keep dreaming of 3rd place Kai :P because, it's probably going to be Houston, Chicago ... and the rest

Rumors have it that the Cubs are now going after Maddux. That would be one hell of a rotation.

Maddux is probably going to the Mets since they didn't sign Vlad Guereroro (sp) they have alot of money to spend. Then he'd be hooking up with his long time buddy Glavin.. Another tag team rotation to contend with. [:/] That's the rumor this morning on ESPN Sports Center..

As far as Clemens having to hit, it's going to be a huge change. Hey if Randy Johnson was able to make the switch to the NL I'm sure Clemens wont have a problem with it. The AL cheats with the Designated Hitter anyways!! :P

One thing no ones brought up is now Andy and Roger are both in a "Homerun" park :o Minutemaid Park is second only to Coors field with 186 Homers given up. Let's hope they can control the urge to give up the long ball ;)
