Aircraft maintained by Doss Aviation Inc. have been grounded while 34th Training Wing officials investigate "contractor discrepancies," the school said. The contractor, based in nearby Colorado Springs, has ordered an immediate independent audit of its operations at the academy. Doss officials declined immediate comment. Academy officials said they will keep the aircraft on the ground until "confidence is restored in the safety of the maintenance program and permanent fixes are in place." The grounding affects the school's soaring and jump programs, as well as the Cadet Flying Team - all considered premier leadership opportunities at the academy. Safety concerns were heightened following the Jan. 2 engine failure of a twin-engine UV-18 Twin Otter aircraft. The aircraft was en route to Florida to pick up cadets participating in a parachuting competition when it was forced to land at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla. The grounding affects UV-18s of the 98th Flight Training Squadron; TG-10B unpowered gliders and TG-14 motorgliders of the 94th Flight Training Squadron; and T-41s and Cessna 150s of the 557th Flight Training Squadron. Introductory flight training conducted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is not affected. That program uses DA-20 aircraft maintained by Embry-Riddle employees. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
