Actually a gizmo that was promoted to reduce back injuries for videographers by taking the weight of the camera off the shoulders and back. One of my bosses got excited about it when it came out 3-4 years or so ago. Until he actually tried it out. The purpose of the Steadicam is to provide a "floating" platform and smooth out the bumps and jiggles of hand held and cinema verite style film and video. Used correctly, it's an amazing tool, but -not- the most comforatable thing on the planet to wear and actually quite dangerous if used incorrectly.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
 ltdiver 3 #14 January 15, 2004 QuoteUsed correctly, it's an amazing tool, but -not- the most comforatable thing on the planet to wear and actually quite dangerous if used incorrectly. Must have been a wonderfull experience..sinking to the bottom wearing all that stuff... But they managed to save the guy (and later even the camera and film inside) A good friend of mine has a steadycam at home, and I've tried it a few times...and it's not as easy at it looks (but that's always when you see good people doing their stuff...they make everything look easy) But dang...don't I look like a pimp in this thing.. It retracted like a seatbelt and just made it easier to handle that thing. The show is "Extreme Travel Gear" and the first episode is about Birdman flying and will air in July. After us they went up to Davis to do a show on Team Jank. The producer actually had a pretty good grasp on the generalities of skydiving, and if the tone survives the editing process, the episodes should be good for the sport.
