jessd 0 #1 January 12, 2004 My younger sister works nights at a gas station in town. She needs this job to help pay her bills. But, last night her store was robbed. It was not an armed robbery or anything. The robber just reached over the counter and grabbed the money from the register and ran out of the store. My sister was very shaken up by this. As she was leaving for work tonight she was visibly frightened to go. I tried to console her, but having not been in this type of situation I really did not know what to say. So, I would appreciate any words of advise that I could pass on to her from amyone has been in a similar situation. Thanks! kelel01 1 #2 January 12, 2004 I've been robbed twice-- once at work (armed robbery), and once my house was burglarized. Both were while I was in college, and they are rather unsettling things to have happen. I couldn't be home alone for a while, but with other people there I was ok. If I was alone, I would stay on the phone with someone, especially if I was GOING INTO the house when no one else was home. At work, we just had to implement some new safety measures, including not leaving the back door open (which we did when we were taking out trash or if it was hot in the restaurant). Our boss also had a panic button installed, and knowing the way that everyone had handled the robbery so well actually comforted me. Her fear will pass with time. That's about all of the help I can offer. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{VIBES}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} for her. Kelly
sdgregory 0 #3 January 12, 2004 I was a Dominoes Pizza Asst. Mangr many many moons ago in Hallandale Florida. The store had gotten robbed so many times (before I worked there) that they put up this bullet proof glass between the customers and the rest of the shop. Then they put up a bullet proof store front with a door buzzer system. I was working close and all the drivers were out. Oftentimes we would buzz pick-up customers in. This guy comes to pick-up an order and pulls a gun. The guy had a .38 and I guess thought he could shoot through it. So he tried to rob me. At first I was surprised and then I started to laugh. I picked up the phone and called the police. He shot the window and scared me but it did not come through. Then he realized he was gonna get nailed and tried to leave but he did not realize that he had to be buzzed out. He was stuck and I was hysterical with laughter. He shot at the windows and door and emptied the damn gun and man it was loud. The cops came and he had nowhere to run. When they had him in custody I went to the officers and gave them a pizza to give the guy covered in anchovie juice. While waiting for the cops I tortured him by pressing the buzzer every once in a while. He cussed me out the whole time he was in there. What fun. StearmanR985 0 #4 January 12, 2004 You may not want to hear this but my wife's uncle was shot while working the night shift at a convenience store. The criminal shot him AFTER he got the money from the register. Her uncle ended up fully recovering but he never worked there again. Perhaps if she could try to find a safer job elsewhere to help pay bills. Maybe waitressing on the night shift somewhere? Good luck and VIBES to you and your sister. Plus, they pay their employees sh!t wages... I hope she manages ok today. JenniferArianna Frances

AggieDave 6 #9 January 13, 2004 Twice someone has tried to rob me. Once a guy had a knife. It didn't go as planned for them, though. kallend 2,146 #12 January 13, 2004 Teenager snatched my ex-wife's purse coming out of a Chicago museum, and ran off. Despite my advanced age I could run faster. I caught him after a mile through the streets. Someone had called the police, who hauled him off. I was willing to press charges, but they let him go anyway.... jessd 0 #13 January 13, 2004 Thanks everyone for sharing your stories. I tried to tell her to get a different job. But, while she is looking she can't just quit this one. They pay her fairly decent for a gas station. It's actually a Shell gas station and from what she says their policy on following up on the incidents is good. Michele 1 #14 January 13, 2004 How ablout driving out and bringing her an ice cream, or a hot chocolate (or something comforting like that...), and sitting with her for a bit? Or, if it's too far away, a few phone calls might help alleviate her stress. I was robbed one night when I was about 17 working at Taco Bell. The guy went sideways, picked up the cash register, and threw it at me. I avoided it by backing into the steam cabinet. He came over the counter and started picking up the cash, but when he was bent over, somehow my foot caught him in the shoulder/chin (I kicked him...), and a tussle ensued. Customers realized something was up, and two burly guys came over the counter while someone else called the cops. Since it's Burbank, the cops were there within moments, while the customers were wrestling him, and my co-worker was holding a pot of that hot beef stuff; he was going to throw it on the bad guy if he could get a clear shot. Several years later, the same guy came back and shot the night manager in the head. I was no longer working there. It was really hard to keep working, but my brother came a few nights and did his homework, or Dad would come by and eat a burrito (he hated burritos)...just to keep me comfy. It helped. A lot. I remained there for the rest of the semester (it was a work study program), but I still don't like going there for a bite to eat. And I don't think Dad's had a burrito since I stopped working there... Iflyme 0 #18 January 13, 2004 Our home has been broken into and robbed twice . The first time, my wife had been out visiting with friends with our new daughter, who was about 4 months old back then. We think she interrupted the theives, because the the tv ws sitting on the coffee table with 1/2 the wires/cables disconnected ... and the sundeck door just a metre or so away was open. They got lots of loot -- video camera, good stereo system, close to two hundred cd's, etc. About 7 years later, we got hit again. They didn't get as much stuff this time -- but it sure frightened my kids when they came home with my wife tht afternoon (the girls were about 7 and 5 then). The first time it was really an disturbing invasion of our personal space -- the second time it just made me REAL mad.

dixieskydiver 0 #23 January 13, 2004 My dad had a pistol stolen out of his truck in our driveway recently. Also when I was like 8 or so the police uncovered a plot to kidnap my family to ransom us to my dad. So then we had to do some kind of WPP and they moved us around every two weeks for a few months until they could bring the whole thing down and convict the guys. Huge one, and a Cannon scanner, various cables and one photo to the homeless garage crackin community of fuck nuts here in PB... still hot about it. If I owned a gun I'd go circleing for it, and twist a few skull caps... maybee just with the butt of the gun, but damn did I feel violated... and back in the day I had a piece pulled on me by a druggie raver fuck that I thought would kill me, but I talked him down from the buisness end, and he ended up saying he'd seen me out at some ill parties and quack quack afflack... Knew a girl that was the prettiest thing walkin and she got took for 10 grand by a shitty boyfriend... and she was the marrying type... felt pretty bad for her.
