Ian84 0 #1 January 16, 2004 So im sitting here listening to some Rage Against The Machine and my dad is trying to convince me that it sounds just like all the other heavy metal he's ever heard. He (like all parents) hasnt got a clue about anything. Anybody know of anything that sounds remotely similar to these guys?? I wanna here it. Or if you have any advice that'll help me kick my dads ass in this argument.....that would be nice.
jtval 0 #2 January 16, 2004 the first "downset" cd sounds a bit like rage. not exactly but you cant tell they were in that catagory! but tom morella does alot of experimenting with his guitar most other bands/guitarist just play chords the as as the proverbial "YOUR MUSIC IS TOO LOUD" argument. it'll always be there. unless you teach your ear to hear the difference all types of music will sound the same. I can say all rap is the same, all country music isnt music, I cant tell one polka song form the other...can you? LOLMy photos My Videos
TheRus 0 #3 January 16, 2004 Nope, no one comes to mind... That is one of the better things about RATM was the fact that they WERE so original and unique. Best advice I can give you to convince your dad is for more folks to post here about the band and then show him the thread. Yeah, it's fine, we'll walk down the line. mfrese 0 #4 January 16, 2004 If he says it all sounds the same, don't you wanna try to find something different? Not a huge metal fan, but I don't think any of the mainstream metal bands like Metallica, Megadeath, or Slayer sound much like Rage at all. If you want something a little more in the funk/hard rock thing, really shake him up and try something like Extreme (Pornograffiti has some great funk/metal stuff on it). Going WAY back, see if you can dig up some Pat Travers...Makin' Magic has some pretty funky songs, ditto Puttin' it Straight, and this shit is from the Seventies. Good luck...I'm probably older than your dad, and I still love this stuff!Doctor I ain't gonna die, Just write me an alibi! ---- Lemmy/Slash

TheRus 0 #7 January 16, 2004 As much as I love Audioslave I don't think it bears much resemblance to RATM at all... nor to Soundgarden either for that matter. All 3 bands mentioned in this post are/were GREAT though. Yeah, it's fine, we'll walk down the line. I do find there are some similar sounds in Audioslave and in both Soundgarden and RATM (funny uh! lol), but they music isnt similar; to me anyways.Remster
WrongWay 0 #9 January 16, 2004 I know of a band that sounds just like them but I can't remember for the life of me the name of them. For anyone that has the Hackers soundtrack they have a song on there called "Good Grief". I can't remember the name, so someone throw them in there if you know. GARYC24 3 #12 January 16, 2004 Audioslave. My first time ever hearing them was a students skydive video. Then later I heard the band is made up from Sound Garden and RATM..I don't "love" that kind of music. I just buy stuff, later I give it away. My next 2 cd's I will but and give away later will be The Plasmatics and Gwar! I actually saw The Plasmatics with WOW(Wendy O Williams)
