skybrat68 0 #3 January 16, 2004 I'm not from FL but I've lived here for 8 years now. I've not frequented St Pete much but the few times I have been there, I've not been real impressed. I live in Lakeland which is about 30 miles east of Tampa (about half the distance between Tampa and Orlando off I-4). I live in north Lakeland which is only 20 minutes from Skydive City which is a bonus. Lakeland is not a big metropolis and I'm not necessarily suggesting you consider Lakeland. There's a lot of nice places in Tampa that I've heard of that you may want to consider, like I said I'm not from here so I'm not familiar with the nice places there. We plan on moving to Zephyrhills when our lease is over in September. Zephyrhills is pretty central. It's way close to the dz, Tampa, and Lakeland which offers the chance to be close to different places to go to work. Good Luck.
Ncrowe 0 #4 January 16, 2004 I find that area of Florida typically pretty boring, I'm new to the sport so I have no idea about DZ's etc. But as far as other things to do and great lifestyle Fort Lauderdale is hard to beat. Its expensive down here but its well worth it IMO "Don't Mess Around With the Guy in Shades- Oh No!!! "
bobsled92 0 #5 January 16, 2004 Port Richie, Lutz, Z-hills, are all concidered. I need to have a job there. I'm 14 years as a Telephone Tech.(non-data) and Line Crew. At $28 per hour here, I have to find similar and then we go. just like that. ( I can't jump out of my situation and jepardozed my kids) If it was just wife & I, we'd sell and get a rental this week end._______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/
skymama 37 #6 January 16, 2004 Can you get a job in Sarasota? That's where I grew up . There's a good mix of the arts and beach life there. SkydiveNFlorida 0 #7 January 16, 2004 Orlando is pretty cool, too.... but right near disney so very touristy. I live right outside of Ft. Laud also and it is a pretty nice area here (plantation). If you consider S. Fla, I can give names of nice and not-so-nice areas down here. :) good luck. Angela.
bobsled92 0 #8 January 16, 2004 If I can get a job there, I'll go. arlo 0 #9 January 16, 2004 check the new tampa area. zhills is the town of the newlywed and nearly dead. population triples in the winter from all the snowbirds. i know. i lived there for 2 yrs. new tampa is NE of tampa and everything is, well, new. nice new schools, super target, panera, movico, home depot, blah blah blah. new tampa is technically in hillsborough county, though, so the taxes will be higher. if you move to lutz, you'll be living in pasco county and that means lower taxes. wesley chapel is an option. wesley chapel is next to zhills and new tampa. st. pete and clearwater are at least 45 to 1 hr from the dz...AND you have to go past malfunction junction (intersection of I-4 and I-275) to get there. that place sucks ASS during rush hour. hope this helps... a

arlo 0 #13 January 16, 2004 you can also check the websites of the phone companies. i took the liberty of doing so with bellsouth and verizon. neither had a job matching your forte. but that doesn't mean anything either. do some searches on www.monster.com or www.careerbuilders.com . enter the criteria and do a search in the area you want to live in. also, since you work for verizon, see if they have any internal jobs listed for florida. usually companies have more jobs for existing employees than they do for "outside" folks. keep in mind too that you don't have to do exactly what you're doing now. your background should allow you to venture out of that a bit. your experience will shine through and that may work as well.... good luck on the job search. Stacy 0 #14 January 16, 2004 also keep in mind when looking and seeing salary figures that there is no state tax in florida. all you pay out of a check is federal. salaries tend to look lower due to that fact. If I was to re-move to florida (or relocate within FLorida, which I'm trying to do), I'd go Sarasota or Bradenton, which is just north of Sarasota. Sarasota is a neat city on the water- not too big, but big enough.. has some neat museums, lots of restaurants and great sightseeing and places to walk and bike/mangroves to kayak, etc. Cost of living is cheaper in Bradenton which borders to the north. kinda like the sarasota 'burbs. __
Ron 10 #15 January 16, 2004 QuoteSHe said YES to FLA. and I want to make it happen Cool. The first thing I would do is find a job...then look for a place. I personally am looking for my first house. All I can really tell you is don't work in Tampa, and live accross the Bay in ST Pete, CLW....Or vice versa. Try to avoid living where you will have to travel through the I4 & I275 vunction from I4...The I275 section is not bad....I do it from I4, but I do it at 6AM..30 min later and it really sucks. EricaH 0 #21 January 16, 2004 Everyone's advice on the malfunction junction area is right on. Also, if you live accross teh bay in St. Pete & have to commute to Tampa, you have to cross one of 4 bridges & those are almost as bad. I live in Chicago & traffic here RARELY gets as bad as those areas get every day. Sarasota is WONDERFUL, however, Bradenton as they said is just to the north & MUCH less expensive. You can hardly tell where one ends & the other takes over, I grew up in B'ton, but know Sarasota almost as well. Brandon is just sout of Tampa, north of Palmetto, it's a good place also. Plus it has a highway heading streight east that almost runs into Lake Wales. Lakeland is were my parents live now, its less expensive than Tampa or Bradenton (Manatee county), but it's also more inland (read FL crackers!!) This New Tampa is so new I hadn't heard of it, sounds nice, great location, esp if you want to jump @ Z-hills. The west coast is the best coast!! Sarasota's key, Siesta Key has had the "whitest beaches in the world" for many years. There are 2 other beaches (one in Asia & on in the FL panhandle) that are near it. USF is a great college D1AA (same as D1, but not as sports oriented), it's in Tampa area and has branches in Lakeland & Bradenton. Wonderful campus... wish I had gone there all 4 years! Anyway, the people that live there now are more knowlegable, but if you feel like PMing me... feel free. My specialty area is Brandon, Bradenton/Sarasota, inland from Brandon to the south end of Lakeland (which is VERY near Lake Wales). There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear. PMS #227 (just like the TV show)
marcandalysse 0 #22 January 16, 2004 I live in Sarasota. Although everyone is talking about how nice it is, notice how none of them actually live here Sarasota is nice if you have younger children and doing the family thing, or are retired. Not much of a nite life here(hey that's why I'm always at zhills partying with you guys!) Best for you would be find the job first and move to the place most convenient to that job. Getting employment first in this lousy economy is paramount. Remember, all salaries are a third less (or worse) what you could get up north. Its what we call 'The Price of Living in Paradise' ! bobsled92 0 #23 January 16, 2004 It's funny that I really did NOT mention Z-Hills DZ and it's the area she's been getting house listings forQuoteyou can also check the websites of the phone companies. i took the liberty of doing so with bellsouth and verizon. neither had a job matching your forte. but that doesn't mean anything either. do some searches on www.monster.com or www.careerbuilders.com . enter the criteria and do a search in the area you want to live in. also, since you work for verizon, see if they have any internal jobs listed for florida. usually companies have more jobs for existing employees than they do for "outside" folks. keep in mind too that you don't have to do exactly what you're doing now. your background should allow you to venture out of that a bit. your experience will shine through and that may work as well.... good luck on the job search. THANKS, I am working to get an internal which would only work if I get Managment. the CO. still is GTE and Bell Atl. as far as Techs/non Mgt. jobs All the On-line jobs searches gave me 1 job in Phoenix(our original try) and an Area she said yes to. Also the day Tanya said "OK, I agree & I want to" I said to what?>>Move to Fla. It was at the point of her NOT wanting Fla. last year to where we started counsiling last Aug. (said she'd leave me if I went) I thought I'd be single and moving alone by March. I will consider any job that can pay for a home of 3 bedrooms and some yard for my 2yr old son also._______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/
