cruzlite 0 #1 January 16, 2004 I agree with much of what TKennedy said in his recent speech. Link to speech; http://www.senate.gov/~kennedy/statements/04/01/2004114558.html TK did not adequately explain his support of Carrie (who voted for the war) in his subsequent interview on cnn - IMO D

He should be working to make 19 July a national DUI Awareness day rather than spewing such nonsense.Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! On the topic of lies, have you read last year's State of the Union speech recently?... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. A sad state of affairs, but I do not think my cynicism is unfounded. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

Other than the fact there wasn't one original thought in the entire speech and it was just the same ole lefty-Bush hating rhetoric spin that gets debated on DZ.Com daily? TheAnvil 0 #6 January 16, 2004 Odd you need me to point them out for you John. You can lie outright and you can also lie by ignoring facts - Kennedy's speech is HUGE on the latter. If I had time I'd dissect it for you, but to whet your appetite..... A few: It has broken faith with the American people, aided and abetted by a Congressional majority willing to pursue ideology at any price They have pursued their goals at the expense of urgent national and human needs The Administration and the majority in Congress have put the state of our union at risk Our troubles in foreign policy today are as clear as they are self-made. By far the most serious consequence of the unjustified and unnecessary war in Iraq is that it made the war on terrorism harder to win. We knocked Al Qaeda down in the war in Afghanistan, but we let it regroup by going to war in Iraq. We did not have to go to war. Alternatives were working. The President should never have sent them in harm's way in Iraq for ideological reasons and on a timetable based on the marketing of a political product.Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! billvon 3,120 #7 January 16, 2004 >A few: A few more: "We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat." - Rumsfeld, March "We've been to virtually every ammunition supply point between the Kuwaiti border and Baghdad, but they're simply not there." - James Conway, 1st MEF "We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories. You remember when Colin Powell stood up in front of the world, and he said, Iraq has got laboratories, mobile labs to build biological weapons. They're illegal. They're against the United Nations resolutions, and we've so far discovered two." - Bush "The President is indeed satisfied with the intelligence that he received. And I think that's borne out by the fact that, just as Secretary Powell described at the United Nations, we have found the bio trucks that can be used only for the purpose of producing biological weapons. That's proof-perfect that the intelligence in that regard was right on target." - Ari Fleischer "They are not mobile germ warfare laboratories. You could not use them for making biological weapons. They do not even look like them. They are exactly what the Iraqis said they were -- facilities for the production of hydrogen gas to fill balloons." - British weapons inspector "There is no question but that they (US troops) would be welcomed in Iraq. Go back to Afghanistan, the people were in the streets playing music, cheering, flying kites, and doing all the things that the Taliban and the al-Qaeda would not let them do." - Rumsfeld, March "Never said (they would welcome us.) Never did. You may remember it well, but you're thinking of somebody else. You can't find, anywhere, me saying anything like either of those two things you just said I said." - Rumsfeld, September

Being that it's pretty clear the above statements are opinions, it's pretty hard to call them lies. You may disagree with them, but it's not a lie per se, like, say, Saddam was attempting to purchase Uranium from Niger... Never go to a DZ strip show. SkydivingNurse 0 #10 January 17, 2004 Even though my politics lean pretty far to the right, one rule that has always helped me with the politicos from both sides of the isle is: How do you know when a politician is lying? Their lips are moving. Just my $0.
