Cypres thread, a different approach

Recommended Posts

Every Cypres activation I've seen has been the result of a low pull...seen one on video.

My take is if mine ever fires and I'm conscious, I'm gonna think real hard about quitting the sport.

I would kick my ass if I every had one due to loss of alti awareness.
WE have several people at our DZ who are members of an elite group of skydivers known as Team Cyres... I have no desire whatsoever to join their ranks

I am a firm believer

"Thou shalt not scare thine cyres, for it will verily make they life interesting"

On the other hand if I ever get kicked in the head AGAIN and was groggy and it fired.. then it was very cheap insurence for my life.

Ah forget how it's spelled. :)

I've watched a CYPRES fire no main deployment. (passed out spinning student)

I know one person who had a CYPRES fire after losing altitude awareness during a speed competition. He layed flat JUST prior to it firing. and have a couple friends that would have died with out them. Several other incidents are on the top of my head as well ...

I've never had one fire but have been low enough on a couple occassions when I didn't have a CYPRES.

If it ever happens to me, I highly doubt I'll quit.

I don't think my Cypres fire is applicable to any of the options. I chopped, pulled silver and saved my own ass, but my Cypres fired. From what my alti said I was too high for it to go (1500ft after I was under a good reserve and pointed for home) but the folks at Airtec say I was lower. It was an eye-opener and if I have another spinner I'm not gonna spend so long getting stable before I pull silver, but I saved my own ass (the loop wasn't cut), and I was aware throughout the entire ordeal. I definitely won't stop jumping over it, that was about 8 months ago
I got nuthin

Had two out once. Not because of a Cypres fire though. I think it was more an error in how I put the rig on and maybe a reserve pin that was a bit loose. I have seen SEVERAL Cypres fires. Most were pure stupidity. One friend is alive today because her Cypres saved her life after she was knocked unconcious on exit. I haven't jumped with an AAD (Except the couple times jumping borrowed gear) in the last 350 or so jumps. I really need to get one.........:S
