One of the balls is a Vladiball which deploys its parachute at 1500ft. where the wind is 40kt. Do the following balls hit it?

Edited to say: Don't know what a Vladiball is? Check

Umm Vladiballs don't deploy their own parachutes, they dump their load of lead shot....... :S;)

Sorry, I forgot to answer the quiz :P

Each Vladi ball would deploy in the same spot. After deployment, they have 8 seconds to fly away on their parachutes before the next one deploys.

Dave

Edited to add: No they won't collide.;)

Only one is a Vladiball, the others just keep on going...

And no, they won't collide, showing that even with groundspeed=zero you don't necessarily get no separation in the air.

The moral of all this is that there's no simple rule that works in all situations. You just have to understand the problem at a fundamental level.

You have to split the altitude up into the airspeed layers, calculate the time each object spends in each layer, use that to calculate drift. add it all up to get total movement. It's just accounting......

:Panyway, aren't you supposed to wait until the ball is at a 45 degree angle from the plane before letting the next one go? (I'm kidding, I'm kidding)
