Anything to help Halliburton?

Recommended Posts

Anyone else catch the news story that Halliburton will most likely be getting a one billion dollar contract to provide drilling equipment for the future trip to Mars that GWB announced this week?

Question.

Will Halbutron and/or the Administration be blasted every time Halbutron gets a government contract as long as the Republican's are in office?

If yes, why?

If they are no-bid contracts to cronies, yes. Just like I criticize Democratic Mayor Daley for awarding no-bid contracts to his cronies in Chicago.

Agreed, we all know that Halliburton has tons of experience drillling massives holes in things, but if they don't have to bid on contracts which are signed off on by their buddies, yeah, they're gonna draw some heat.

Have you got a link or anything other than a rumour etc?
There are a couple of issues that make this Snopes worthy.
Firstly we are many decades from drilling Mars.
Secondly, traditional drilling gear is extremely heavy. How are we going to get it there?
Thirdly, geo surveys are normally required prior to deployment of drilling equipt. These surveys can only tell if there is liquid in the formations, not oil specific. Currently we don't know for sure if there is any liquid at all on Mars.
Fourth, who allocates licences for mineral exploitation of a new planet? The US?
Fifth, the real money will be in providing the pipeline.:P

No such news story. There is a news story that Halliburton has studied the issues of drilling on other planets, and thinks there would be some benefits from learning to do so. To claim they are getting a contract from drilling on Mars is like claiming that Wal-Mart is going to make a lot of money selling socks to martians. (I mean, who knows, they might - but you have to find martians, or in the case of halliburton, oil or water, first.)

Note: bold added by me

Now we know why Georgie wants to go to mars.... If there was life there, but now it's gone, they must of left remains, which may have turned into oil. It's all becoming very clear now. ;)

I was asking if anyone else had heard about it - I originally heard it on MSNBC on the Countdown show.
