jumprunner 0 #1 January 20, 2004 Better watch out for this everyone, this one's nasty. Had me bedridden since Friday and havent been able to eat anything for the last two days and almost dehydrated in the process, but Ill spare the gory details. Just dont get it! Im in Phoenix, my cousin in Houston just contracted the exact same thing so it doesnt seem to be local to this area. Weird shit going around these days
mouth 0 #2 January 20, 2004 I agree it is nasty. My 15 y/o daughter wound up in the hospital Friday because of it. She has just today gotten to where she has the energy to put on clothes. Drs think it will take her most of the week to gain her strength back. My step sister who is pregnant also caught it. Thankfully she managed to throw it off sooner than Ash. I spent most of my spare time this weekend with Lysol cleaning around my house in hopes of keeping my 9 y/o and myself from getting it. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit. Skyrose7 0 #4 January 20, 2004 it's wierd all the variations of it. I didn't get the stomach flu, but I definately had the flu. 103 temp and stuck in bed for days. It was the worst flu I have ever had. My body never hurt so bad. So glad to be healthy and hope I don't ever get that again!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. StearmanR985 0 #5 January 20, 2004 I HATE the stomach flu!!! I would rather have THE flu than the stomach thing. Hope my family and I don't get it..... Glad you are on your way to feeling better.
lawrocket 3 #6 January 20, 2004 I've had it for a week and a half now. Fortunately, I guess I didn't have it too bad, as I can still function at work and such. My wife is hotter than your wife.

Nightingale 0 #8 January 20, 2004 a lot of the time the "stomach flu" is actually food poisoning. I had the regular flu... fever of 103 for three days, and not really feeling like I had energy for almost a month.
turtlespeed 226 #9 January 20, 2004 If the weather is good enough today and the DZ is open today - I might come down with a case of it. DOH! I meant tomorrow - I really did - I meant tomorrow.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
EdC 0 #10 January 20, 2004 I had it last month and I'm in Ohio. Went to the doc and he said just let it run its course. It sucked and it lasted about 5 - 6 days. Big Ed
jumprunner 0 #11 January 21, 2004 Quotea lot of the time the "stomach flu" is actually food poisoning. I had the regular flu... fever of 103 for three days, and not really feeling like I had energy for almost a month. I thought about that, I dont think it is the case. I pretty much ate the same thing at the same places, nothing changed, and there seems to be numerous reports of it comming in from all over the country as per some sort of stomach virus. Now, I really hate to have to post this, but consider this a necessary FYI, so here it goes: The symtoms are: slight headache, some disorientation and dizziness, feeling real run down, sleeping alot, and you literally shit water for at least several days. Anything you eat, even if it is just a glass of water, you shit water, constantly, and ofcourse dehydrate as a result of it. I know thats gross, but not intended to be a pun. Now Im over it completely after about three days of this kind of torture. What you have to do is literally starve out the stomach virus, Immodium AD has no affect in controlling it but take it anyway, several times a day. The first day all I drank was tons of water to keep from dehydrating: Note: diarreah kills by dehydration so watch out! The second day just beef bullion cubes in hot water, then the next day just chicken soup broth, then the liquid from beet borcht (Jewish food), Matzo crackers (another Jewish food), total liquid diet. When it finally stopped, I recovered by starting on more chicken soup broth (liquid only), then Matzo Ball soup (Jewish), more Matzo crackers, cheeze and crackers (you gotta "work your way back up" after not eating for several days), then finally had the first real solid food today: a steak and cheese sandwich...everything okay. I know noone is joking about it here, but dont joke about diarreah or take it lightly...it can kill you! 1. Down lots of water after each "episode" - your body is dropping tons of water and it needs to be replaced, or you dehydrate 2. Replace electrolytes - if you are getting dizzy, its because you are literally "shitting out" all your electrolytes, thats what chicken soup, beet borcht, and beef bullion especially does..replaces electrolytes, very importand 3. I found that anything with sugar (gatorade, candy) can furthur irritate your stomach at the initial stages of this...use beef bullion and lots of water instead, the virus doesnt seem to attack that 4. Immodium AD and Maalox (for acid, heartburn symptoms) helped quite a bit but may take a few days to control it And luckily Im over this, got an interview tomorrow morning.
