Newbie 0 #1 January 22, 2004 the way i'm going i'll be lucky if the car is still alive next month. Last month they did £800 worth of damage by breaking in and stealing nothing. Insurance covered all but £250 of it. Today, after having the car back for a week, i find out they have keyed the hood and all down the drivers side - 3 panels, approx £800 worth of damage again - which i cant afford - so that means the car stays in this worthless state. Ironically one of the panels that wasn't touched was the new door that was put on. What is the matter with people to make them do something lke this? It's not personal because i don't know anyone in the area - i know the people in my building (all 3 of them) and they are kind and good natured. It's parked outside my apartment and until now i have never had any trouble with it. WTF If anyone has any good ideas on getting rid of deep key marks, can you let me know? Is T Cut any good on stuff like this? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts

souleh 0 #3 January 22, 2004 That's nasty.. I've had a car broken into to steal a pair of old trainers?! Insanity, they wouldn't be worth a tenner at a car boot if you tried.. for that we had to replace the lock, and the window surround. Sigh If this sort of thing seems to be recurring, you might want to look into some off-road parking or something. It may be financially better in the long run if the damage they are causing is more than the cost of the garaged parking. Just a thought! T-Cut & polish is alright, though if they've scratched all the pain off it wont be much good - all T-Cut does is remove a layer (or more if you leave it on for a while) of paint, and the polish protects the newly exposed layer below. T-Cut it to clean it off, then spray it with some colour that matches the panels, and polish it off. If the scratch has caused a nasty dent, you might want to take the inner door panel off and push the metal back out a bit.. wont be much good if it's only a small indent though. Good luck, and I hope the scumbags get what's coming to them! Completely mindless.. I have no idea why anyone would want to do this either 'buttplugs? where?' - geno
nacmacfeegle 0 #4 January 22, 2004 "Is T Cut any good on stuff like this? " Fuckin' savages.... Probably not, a quick look should tell you...if you can see the primer or bare metal, then you are shit out of luck, and its a respray job for you. Depending on the age/manufacturer this could be expensive, or very expensive if done properly. Best bet would be to report it, and get the insurance forms out again. Sounds like more than 800 quid to me..-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Newbie 0 #5 January 22, 2004 i dont know if its bare metal im looking at, but its a clear white gouge - the bonnet is history - the other 2 panels on the drivers side go from bad(where they dug the key in) to thin and not bad (obviously where they walked off and the key mark wasnt as deep, as they moved onto the next panel) Can't afford to do this through insurance - my protected No Claims is out of lives (thanks to the break in last month) so i lose 2 years worth - plus i would have to report i claimed twice when i come to reknew - all of that = massive new premium come reknewal time. I guess i'm stuck with the car now until it dies. No way anyone would buy it in this state. "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts

nacmacfeegle 0 #7 January 22, 2004 Sorry Noob, it sounds like T Cut may help for some of the lighter scratches, but not the ones where lighter colured paint is showing. Next alternative might be to take it one of those 'Dent Devils' type places, and see if they can help or advise. Some cars have warranty issues, eg Beamers, Audis etc if you don't use an approved paintshop for this sort of thing. I'm assuming this isn't the case here. Don't just leave it as it is though, once all that salt and other winter shit gets in you'll have even bigger problems if rust gets started under the paint.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. There are no dents thankfully - i think i'm just going to (strange as this sounds) wait and hope someone drives into me and that way i can get new panels. Obviously injuring only the car and not myself. Point noted on the rust thing too - thanks nac. Anyhoo, such is life - there are WAY more people out there in WAY worse positions than i am. Got to keep perspective on this and remain calm. But man, I WOULD LOVE 10 SECONDS IN A ROOM WITH THE KID THAT DID THIS, JUST 10 SECONDS IS ALL I NEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously though, I'll try and get some filler and paint over it or something. At least i can still drive to the dz right! kelel01 1 #10 January 22, 2004 Hmmmm . . . sounds like you're living right down the road from where I used to (not really, but I'll explain.) Exact same thing happened to me-- some piece of crap decided it would be hysterical fun to not only steal my CD's and CD player, but also to break off my sideview mirrors and break out my headlights. Then a couple of months later, after getting a new car, some bitch decided to key it (bitch being a non-gender specific reference). I STILL have a nice, long scratch going down the side of my car, including through the pinstripe (twice). But the people at the auto shop said that all I would really need to make it look a lot better is one of those cheap-o paint jobs. It should fill it in well enough to where it'd be tough to tell anything had ever happened. Just haven't gotten around to it yet, probably never will. TequilaGirl 0 #13 January 22, 2004 Here this should make you feel better - last week - someone kicked in my front door and stole my laptop, 51" high definition big screen, x-box, dvd player, vcr and a few other items.....not to mention my new Mercedes was keyed a couple of months earlier.....so really - it isn't that bad. pleifer 0 #14 January 22, 2004 Turtle wax makes some waxes that come in colors. I once scrached the hell out of my pickup, dukes of hazzard style. The brush growing on the logging roads. It took care of all but the deepest ones, and even those it made them less noticeable. It is cheap and all you have to loose is an afternoon.
