Douva 0 #1 January 21, 2004 When did the Freak Brothers Reunion become the World Free Fall Convention? What was the first year it was held in Quincy? Was there ever a year missed after the creation of the WFFC, or has it been held every year since? Thanks again. Blue skies, Douva D-22772I don't have an M.D. or a law degree. Blue skies, Douva D-22772 From what I know (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is that there was no convention in 1990 and then Kirlin and Ebbing ran the convention from 91 forward. "WFFC" Mike you got the inside scoop?
WFFC 1 #3 January 21, 2004 Quote"WFFC" Mike you got the inside scoop? 2004 will be the 15th version of the World Freefall Convention as it is currently known, with the beginning in 1989 as i do the math. The Freak Brothers (website) start and ends I'm not sure of. The Freak Brother website has convention years of 1979 to 1982. I thought it ran longer than that, but I could be wrong. Wasn't jumping back then.
diverdriver 7 #4 January 21, 2004 Yah, Roger moved the convention (reunion) to Quincy, I believe, in 1985 or 86 from Freeport. It ran there until 1989 when he went on vacation. There was not enough time for Kirlin to take it on for 90 (I think) so it went on for them in 91. Again, just from memory and a taped interview I saw once with either Kirlin or Ebbing. I think it may have even been a convention video but not sure.

I'm talking about Don and his interview.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. GARYC24 3 #12 January 21, 2004 The only time I have went to WFFC was in 1991 "Love that Herc" C-130 Hercules (Actually was a Lockheed L100) I attended the Jerry Bird seminar and camp. Also Craig Buxton. I had a good time, only three days there! It stormed after a C130 jump, we had video and I never found the guy to get a dub from it! I would love to find out who it was and if there are any other videos from 1991 ! Gary Calhoun

Douva 0 #16 January 22, 2004 My WFFC '99 jacket says "Ten years of Quincy magic" on it, so I'm assuming that means ten years since the first official WFFC and not 10 actual conventions. That sound right? --DouvaI don't have an M.D. or a law degree. I have bachelor's in kicking ass and taking names.
smooth 0 #17 January 22, 2004 The name was officially changed from Freak Brother Convention during it's 11th year, when it moved from Freeport to Quincy (1986). That was the year with the South Africa C-130 sporting the subtle "Roger Nelson's World Skydiving Convention" on the tail. It was definitely called the World Free Fall Convention in 1990 as diverdriver said. Oct. 1990 issue of Parachutist states: "Last year, Quincy missed having what should have been the 14th annual running of a meet begun by Roger and Carl Nelson in the '70s"
Douva 0 #18 January 22, 2004 So, is my jacket just wrong? By "last year," does the Oct. 1990 issue of Parachutist mean the preceding summer (summer of 1990) or the preceding year (1989)? --DouvaI don't have an M.D. or a law degree. diverdriver 7 #19 January 22, 2004 I'm thinking that would be 1989. Ok I missed it by ---><--- much.
ChasingBlueSky 0 #20 January 22, 2004 IIRC from what Roger used to tell us...the Freak Brother Convention first started in Big Foot, WI, then moved to Freeport (early 80s), before finally moving to Quincy (1986) and called it Roger Nelson's World Freefall Convention. But then again, I could be wrong since I was never there, and much to young at the time to know what was going on in the skydiving world. I don't know when Kirlin took it over officially - maybe someone should contact Jan/Geronimo about that._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Snowwhite 0 #22 January 23, 2004 Thanks for the Margarita Michael, it shooooorrreee is goooood right now. Anywho, yes, I am putting together all of the 'correct' skinny on the actual beginning of the World Free Fall Conventions' conception. btw, that named was coined by Don Kirlin, because he felt that the Convention should reflect the comaraderie of the entire skydiving world, and not be under the ownership of one individual. The skipped year happened because when Roger was unable to be around for a while the City of Quincy approached Don and Rob Ebbing, and asked them if they could put together another Freak Brothers Reunion. Don and Rob said if they were going to do it, it was going to be bigger and better than anything the skydiving world had ever seen before, and it would take them a year to pull it off. They did, it was and the rest is WELL< HISTORY. Anyway, I'll put together a nice bio of the whole thing, and it will be on the WFFC website for those of you who are interested.skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
