Jayruss 0 #1 January 25, 2004 Ok question, just rented and watched “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” which is a great movie if you understand your literary history. So I understand most of the characters Captain Nemo Dracula’s wife The Invisible Man Tom Sawyer Dr Morearty (SP?) But who is Sean Connery’s character? I know he’s Allan Quatermain, is he the guy that found Dr. Livingston? And who was the immortal guy with his soul caught in the picture? I have to recommend the movie if you read any of these stories, it’s a unique way to put a group of fictional characters together. I really liked that the movie was just so different from everything else out there right now. __________________________________________________ "Beware how you take away hope from another human being." -Oliver Wendell Holmes
Bodyflight.Net 0 #2 January 25, 2004 Quatermain discovered King Solomon's Mines. At that time in fictional history, we didn't know much about Africa, but Livingstone was trying to find out where the Nile came from/led to...
jerry81 10 #3 January 25, 2004 The immortal guy would be Dorian Gray (Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde). Allan Quatermain seems to be a fictional character as well, according to this page that Google spat out. BTW, the guy who found Livingston was named Henry Stanley, and he was real. CrazyIvan 0 #4 January 25, 2004 Allan Quatermain was also played by Richard Chamberlain, sort of a 'Pre-Indiana Jones' movies__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
Jayruss 0 #5 January 25, 2004 Wow, cool I knew you guys would have the answers. I knew that Livingston was real but he was the only figure I could think of at the time. Thanks, you've got to admit that its a thinking movie. And of course now the end makes sense, in that Allan Quatermain dies in the book named after him. __________________________________________________ "Beware how you take away hope from another human being." -Oliver Wendell Holmes
hungarianchick 0 #6 January 25, 2004 Dorian Gray, the character in Oscar Wilde's story is an extremely good looking but rather vain, shallow and cruel young man who cannot bear the thought of getting old and unattractive... He has a picture painted of him which has the supernatural power of aging instead of him but also concentrates all his cruel and evil tendencies while he remains young and attractive... He is terrified of the picture, hides it in his attic, but cannot help looking at it as it changes. At the end the picture kills him, but the body people find in the attic is and old, wrinkly, vizen man nobody recognizes. Or something like that... Oh yeah, and there is nothing on the canvas... DJatLarge 0 #10 January 26, 2004 Speaking of pre-Indiana Jones... Anyone remember a show called Tales of the Gold Monkey? I remember watching it as a kid, but i think it fell off the planet at some point.

jverley 1 #12 January 26, 2004 I enjoyed LXG as well. I am now reading King Solomon's Mine by H Rider Haggard. Allan Quartermaine is the narrator and protagonist. I am only two chapters in so I can't recommend it yet.John Arizona Hiking Trails
ChasingBlueSky 0 #13 January 26, 2004 QuoteQuoteX-men light Don't you mean X-Men DUMB? I'm glad I didn't pay to watch LXG - luckily my roomate purchased it on DVD. I never really found the graphic novel all that interesting either. What has me worried is how Hollywood is trying to turn these graphic novels into movies. Road To Perdition was an amazing story with some fantastic visuals - in comic form. I found the movie borning and a pale version of the story it came from. Of course the 1989 Batman was a poor adaptation of the Frank Miller stories. (gotta admit Frank ruined the story in DK2) Now I hear that Watchmen has been greenlighted - this is one of my all time favorite graphic novels and I'm certain they are gonna mess it up. There is just too much story and too many characters to get into one movie._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
