Hm, Americans aren't well liked by many Arabs...

My EX-sister -in-law is Lebanese. Her family moved here for the same reason mine did.
Folks talk of being non-partial yet pop out with hate just like any racism.
My family's 2 parts:from the Irish, had to come here( sad story) & Scottish wanted business (good story) The commom FACT is:
So many people move to "the States" it's due to their home land not be considered "worth living in" to them.
The exit door in the U.S. is always open too. The in door should be nailed shut for quite awhile and let the rest eat each other up.
My family moved here because the home turf was in fact NO longer worth living in for "quality of life".
The Tentacles AND money, etc should be with drawn from around the Globe immediatly.
THe U.S. should not worry or create havoc in other countries and concetrate on problem on the home front and border closure.

Anyway, he showed me some of the souvenirs he had picked up.

A beautiful, well made Bin Laden statue thingy. Had Bin ladens face and a miniature of the WTC, with a plane going into one of the towers. Socket was of high quality wood. Heavy thing, well made.

A Saddam Hussein lighter, also well made.

A US GI lighter-thingy. Press button, US soldier gets flame through head.

Well I'm certainly glad to hear the trinket industry is doing so well over there.

Of course, since 9/11 I don't think there's anything you can't buy with a US Flag on it.

I think we in the West have no idea just how much animosity there is towards the US in particular. France and Germany aren't much better in their eyes and Britain is almost as bad as the US.

Do you know have any idea how many people in European contries that don't like you either?
It was maybe a little shock when France didn't support your war. The fact is that US is alienating itself from the rest of the world. The US sees itself as the ones who is going to save the world.
There is no other contry I am more afraid of is going to destroy the world as we know it.
I can see how the corporate america is slowly infecting my country.

It's time for the people in the US to wake up!

There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

You missed all of our "secret wars"
...more than are on your list.
The U.S. should leave foriegn soil and shut borders down.
I don't agree that U.S. should do ANYTHING outside of U.S. territory while so much is needed on home soil.

Your list leave's out all the poor choices we made thru the CIA (sp)? through their unoffical support of unpopuler leaders, (Shaw of Iran) etc or the CIA's policy of encouraging the overthrow of leader's of countries that did not agree with our national or economic interests. Do you you think that they lose sleep when the polls show that a percentage of the US population doesn't like them?

OK, well I definitely won't argue with you on some of these... But somehow I was under the impression that World Wars I and II were somehow underway before we got our asses involved (correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think the Revolution exactly counts either, as we weren't invading another country but throwing off the reigns of tyrrany. AS for the Civil war different ballgame altogether. Gulf War I and a couple of other things you mention were police actions brought about by the military actions of other nation-states. When i mentioned the 225 yrs of historical precedent, I was really just talking about times when we went to war in the absence of something to really draw us into it. What did Iraq do (differently) to "draw" us in to GWII?

Yeah, remember those two times we invaded those peaceful loving Germans. Man, what a hoot. :S

Not to mention the time that we provoked the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. ;)

I simply listed ALL actions that have involved the US in the past 225 years. For example - Somalia was a UN mission - but the US saw action there. In no way did I infer that the US was the aggresor in any or all of the conflicts listed.

I have to admit that I care more about what the Arabs think than the European countries. As a group they've always had an "I'm superior" attitude and looked down their noses at the US. Lately, they've went to great pains to hide their economic goals in cloaks of moral superiority. I find it disgusting.

I think if an arab talked to our very own Steel he'd get a feeling that americans all hate muslims. But that would just be one american; it's hard to draw any conclusions from that.

You know whats funny. I was thinking that all my life I have heard foreigners from just about everywhere saying negative things about the U.S. I never quite understood it. Even though I had my opinion that it was all based on jealousy, I could clearly see that there were two possibilities. One is jealousy and the other was that the U.S. citizens were truly mean-spirited toward other countries.

As I grew older and traveled I noticed parallels. In Europe I found there to be a clear jealousy toward Germany (the most successful country there). Having been married to a Russian, I heard endless negative propaganda against Germany. Ofcourse I never fell for any of it. The truth could not be any clearer when we would meet people in other countries and I would say I am American and she would say she was German. At first I would have a double take and ask, "why the hell did you say that? Your Russian." But obviously she wished she was German but still had a ton of negative propaganda to spew about them. It doesn't end there. My sister went to vet school in Argentina for 6 years and I have gotten to know alot from her as well as from freinds she graduated with. Its no different there. Argentina is among the most sucessful countries in South America and the rest of the South Americans have have all the same negative propoganda to say about them. The same things. Oh they think there so great, they think their sh*# doesn't stink they are so insensitive to foreigners. And then we have me and people like me (white{Spanish descendent}, Cuban Americans) without a doubt the most sucessful ethnic group that has ever come to the U.S. And still I hear the same crap. It typically comes from the bleeding heart liberal WASP Americans who are in dire need of an out to release there inner bigotry. Remember Elian Gonzalez and the things that were said. Those Cubans are out of control. Janet Reno needed to send those swat teams in there because the Cuban Mafia would not let her get through otherwise. Who do those Cubans think they are? They have taken Miami. Hey this is the U.S. our billboards should all be in English. I feel like I am in another county in Miami. Florida should not be confused with Miami. Yes I have heard all this crap before and it has annoyed me in the past. But now looking at the whole picture I find it humorous. Because it just goes to prove that we are better and that is why they are jealous of us. Its as simple as that the hate us because we are better. So what, should we lower our quality of life so that they like us, no Screw Em.

I don't usually read the political posts on here, and certainly have never responded to one, but I think maybe that people should remember that although its mainly Americans on this site, there are a lot of people from other countries that all use this site as well. And making wild assumptions about large groups of people based on where they live is likely to offend those of us that don't necessarily think that the American way of life is the best and are proud of being from our respective countries and our traditions we uphold there.

Maybe you should think twice before generalising about entire nations of people on the thoughts and actions of a few. You cannot say that every nation on this planet who doesn't do things the way America does is jealous of the American way of life, that is ridiculous.

At the end of the day, this is a skydiving forum, not a political forum, maybe we should leave the politics outside and get back talking about our common interest of jumping out of planes?

By listing the wars as a response to this, you were implying a rebuttal to the "not going around starting wars". The original poster never said that the US was not in wars, just that the US didn't start them.

That would make your list a lot shorter.

Culture creep is what a lot of countries don't like.
The French don't like the "Americanization" of their language. Too many English words creeping in there.

The ever-present MTV morality. People having sex, wearing flimsy clothes, and dancing in a suggestive manner. All of these things are against the moral codes of Arab countries (and theoretically the Christian ones).

In fairness, the "religious right" in the US isn't that fond of it either. Televangelists refer to Hollywood with the same fervor that others call the US the "Great Satan". They do it for the same reasons.

Remember "Freedom Summer"? 500 mostly black and Jewish college-age kids going to the South to do voter registration drives. Cultural attack. Quite a reaction, wasn't there?

Arab countries don't like the US for its culture and feel that its influence will change their world. It probably will.

For less-slanted liberal analysis of current events, I prefer Howard Zinn.

Zinn is good too. Chomsky does a good job of explaining the animosity though, I always just thought people were jealous of western prosperity and freedom. Turns out we've been killin an awful lot of innocent people.
