What to do when grounded..

Recommended Posts

I'm having surgery on friday and I'll be grounded for at the very least 2 months but more like 3. The issue is a rought landing or hard opening could do some damage if I'm not healed up. I'm going a bit stir crazy on what to do with the down time. I'm thinking maybe the tunnel in Perris if nothing else. Other suggestions were just to be patient and wait. That comment was from a whuffo but I'm not holding it against her. lol Anyway Here'e the deal. Big incision (hip to hip) and I have to treat it with kid gloves for a few months. I haven't been to a wind tunnel. Can it be physically demanding or is it pretty easy on the body? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Ed

ed, what ever it is you are havving done good luck!!! as for healingi would just suck it up and rest during that time... an incision that big s pretty serious.... woldn't wnt it busting open or causing some unsean damage..... but on another note i stated skydiving before my back was completly healed from surgery and it has only now started givng me problems but that from work and not skydiving...

Hi Ed,

I can answer your wind tunnel question.. yes, it is very demanding physically... but some light flying for you after you've removed stitches probably won't be bad.. if you keep everything calm and don't try to do any major FF in there, you should be fine. Just be careful, because a fall or run in with the steel and Lexan in a SkyVenture can be quite painful!

Good luck!!

Hi Ed,
Yes, Darcy mentioned to me that you would be grounded soon. :( That's too bad. I'm so sorry that you will be grounded. Personally, I am also finally having surgery (which was delayed 3 times due to my damn flu) this week...I hope. (Thankfully, I will not have incisions/stitches for my surgery...)

I love the tunnel, but (imo) the tunnel can be actually more physically demanding in some ways, The air blowing up in the tunnel seems so much more violent and harsh than when you are falling down into it. Going into freefall after spending time in the tunnel is interesting because the force of the air in the sky seems so comparatively gentle...LOL! If you have stitches that are healing, you should probably wait to go in...especially since it would be your first time! Sometimes people hit the net (where your stitches will be!) or the walls. Also, it is demanding on your middle because you have to arch for much longer periods than a real freefall. You don't want to delay your healing process. [:/]

Maybe you can watch sky diving videos, read skydiving books/mags/DZ.com, visit your DZ every so often, etc. I know that it is so incredibly frustrating to not be airborne when you really, really want to be. Just remember that the sky will always be there, AND you will probably have nicer weather when you return to it!

I wish you the best of luck with your surgery (my thoughts will be with you), and I will be sending you huge healing vibes for your recovery process. (((((((HUGS)))))))))
Take care, Ed,
ROSA

ummm... can't answer any of your concerns about the tunnel, and somebody already mentioned all the skydiving related things I could think of, so how about: starting a huge puzzle, calling friends, getting one of those "_______ for Dummies" books and figuring out something that interests you. Ask your doctor what exercises you can do, and do them, so you don't feel like you're just sitting around all the time.

Just take care of yourself and remember that's it's only for a little while... good luck:)

I could bring you a couple creepers home from the DZ and you could practice turns and body position. . .lol.

Nah, just rest and relax dude. . .you will be up in the air before long. . .and we shall throw one hell of a bash for you on your birthday when you go back up. . .(and yes, I WILL be licensed by then and you WILL be able to jump with me after your recurrency dive. . .)
