oh, be careful then ;) it looks like it could be...

Yeah watch out. I actually have a friend who is presently 'Engaged' as he presented his GF with a promise ring and she replied "Yes!"

he was like 'gulp'... that was a month and a half ago.. a select few know about it and the poor kid can't bring himself to say anything. :S

Edited to add: It's a lovely ring though BTW, I'm sure she'll love it :)

OMG, that sucks so much ass, I can't even say. My heart goes out to that poor girl. :(

Nice ring, though, Kansas!!! ;) What kind of stone is that? The pic is a little dark.

yes i know everyone be careful, but in the end, if i was older, out of school and we both weren't broke if she thought it was something else I probably wouldn't mind, in the end though if you're meant to be together it doesn't matter if and when you get married, how quick or how long you wait etc

The poor girl?!?!? She's having the time of her life! It's the poor guy that feels trapped!

hehe, actually, after a month and a half, he's acutally quite happy with the thought. They're going to wed and I don't think she'll hear about this until some anniversary when it's laughable.

personally, I think even if he IS gonna marry her, he should tell her that was not his intent.

Since you've explained what kind of stone it is (it's beautiful btw) and not a diamond, I think she'll luv it! Especially if she's expressed an interest in that stone which it sounds like she has.........B|

Yeah, maybe their 50th would be a good time . . . or on his deathbed. Yikes! :S

I just went through the nightmare of finding an engagement ring. I proposed two months ago as of yesterday.

I must say it's gotta be nice for you to get a ring just for the sake of getting her a ring. I've never done that, and engagement ring shoppign was tough (will she like it? Can I afford it? When to give it? Will she say "yes?") All that stuff.

But, it was a great moment. SUrprisingly, no stress or tears or anything once I got it. It was actually anti-climactic, and nobody was surprised (I mean NOBODY who knows us said, "OH MY GOD!" They all kinda said, "Cool. Have you set a date?")

I envy you....:)

edit: ok, so its not a diamond.. but still...

There's no rule that says an engagement ring has to have a diamond. Everyone just thinks that because of a way too successful marketing campaign by the DeBeers cartel. Diamonds aren't even really that rare. :|

Sure! They're as rare as we want them to be. 'Cause as soon as there are too many, we just sink a ship-full into the ocean! :S So silly imo.

that's true but certain diamonds are different, there are real and mass produced, clarity, purity, flaws no flaws, carats, different cutts etc...

so even if we sink a ship, there will always be a new type of "diamond" kinda like j-lo's (did you hear they broke up AGAINlol) but it is a very good marketing strategy they did. we studied their aproach for some time in marketing. the 5 year and 10 year diamond rings are another part of their little trickery up their sleeves.

it is not uncommon to NOT receive a diamond in countries that have not been influenced with the western world

I was a gift giving moron for the longest time, but after a while I came to realize the standard criteria that a present must meet to be fit for my girlfriend....

1 - It must Be Personal
2 - It must be neatly wrapped and creativly
presented
3 - It must gurantee you more time with her
4 - It must Always be a suprise at a random time

Chris, Looks like you did just fine - :)
Edited to add:

Chris, Please let us know how it goes over!
