Jimbo 0 #1 January 26, 2004 Anyone know an online site where I can find crime information by neighborhood/zipcode? At one time I thought that Realtor.com had a link for this information, I can't seem to find it now. Thanks. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. Jimbo 0 #3 January 26, 2004 Close, but too general. What I'm think I saw last year was a breakdown by zip code, not just by city. Thanks though, it's a good start. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
slug 1 #4 January 26, 2004 Everyone has a websight these days. You can check the Local PD or the sheriff's web sight. there might be something there. Just for grins we checked the local sheriff's (county) websight and they had a listing of registered perverts, address's & level of offense and likely hood to reoffend. R.I.P. Michele 1 #5 January 26, 2004 Doesn't the FBI handle the crime stats? maybe a swing through their site would help. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
Jimbo 0 #6 January 26, 2004 Ya know, I checked the FBI site and couldn't find detailed information. I'll check more tomorrow though, I need something to do while I'm at work. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. vamp 0 #7 January 26, 2004 How's this suit you? http://realtynexus.relocationessentials.com/aff/realtynexus/tools/crime/crime.aspx By the way, according to realtor.com, I earn 52k per year and live in a $383,000 house and am over 65. So I don't know exactly how reliable their statistics might be...
Nightingale 0 #8 January 26, 2004 simple. Call the local Police Department and ask them for crime statistics on that area. They will give them to you. When I was leasing apartments, we used to refer people to the PD when they asked us leasing agents if the area was "safe".

I tried asking the Philly police and they said they weren't permitted to give out that info. The wouldn't even give me an opinion of different neighborhoods as a place to live. They just said to hang out in one of them in a safe location and observe the atmosphere and goings on, especially at night.

When I was leasing apartments, we used to refer people to the PD when they asked us leasing agents if the area was "safe". This does not work everywhere. In the Orlando area, I asked some of the guys from the Orange County and Seminole County Sherrif's offices, as well as guys from Orlando PD....and they all said that they are not allowed to give any kind of info or recommendations like that. Supposedly one of them did so many years ago, and the review of a specific housing development was not favorable...and the builders sued them, and won(both the PD and the individual officer), for "defamation".. I know a few guys working in law enforcement in the area, so I asked them...and they asked the guys working those specific areas...off the record, of course. When I looked at the house I eventually bought, I saw an Orlando PD motorcycle officer pull into the garage in the house right behind me. Went over and talked to him...again, off the record...was satisfied, and bought the house. Mike
Nightingale 0 #11 January 26, 2004 Don't ask for their "opinion." Ask for the crime records from that area for say, the last 5 years. Its public record. they have to give it to you.
vamp 0 #12 January 26, 2004 This site will tell you your chances of being a victim of a crime and of a bodily crime in any neighborhood based on state and national percentiles. Just Click on "Neighborhood Info" and enter the zip code, then click on "Crime" and voila! http://mattmaxwell.homelog.com/tp1/hlsite.asp If you dig enough, you can find anything. PhillyKev 0 #13 January 26, 2004 That's the first thing I asked. When they said they couldn't give it to me I asked for opinion. It may be a matter of public record, but the compilation of stats is not. If I wanted to manually search through the crime reports I guess I could do that. PhillyKev 0 #14 January 26, 2004 Nice...I have 6.54% chance of being victim of a crime and 1.49% chance of being victim of a bodily crime.
lawrocket 3 #15 January 26, 2004 I am often wary and skeptical of these statistics. If you think about it pragmatically, crimes increase when enforcement is stepped up. Want to know how many drug busts were in your neighborhood? Well, maybe the PD was raiding everything fro three months trying to clean things up. This means that drug arrests skyrocket, indicating more crime in the neighborhood. Just keep that in mind. My wife is hotter than your wife.
Nightingale 0 #16 January 26, 2004 lol... if there are a lot to search through, you may not want to live there. When I researched my neighborhood, there were something like 12 reports, most of which were domestic disturbances.

Nightingale 0 #18 January 26, 2004 don't search by zip code. I just asked for the stuff within a two mile radius from my apartment. I gave em four major streets as borders and said "give me everything from inside these lines." and they did.

We lived just a couple of miles from the Green river murderer's feeding/dumping grounds and residence. Never was concerned, the guy was into prostitute's hanging out on the strip. Teenagers and car theft/breakin's happen everywhere except where the cops outnumber the bad people. Random drive by's are bad news but you should be able to tell by the hood. Lot's of holes in the stop signs is a indicator. so if people looking ovver their shoulder as you drive by. We have a two dog alarm system. R.I.P.
