flyangel, should i not feed the squirrels then? I looked at it as the same thing as leaving out nuts for the birds in the winter, but correct me if i'm wrong. If it's not a good idea to feed em let me know!
Thanks

Well since you asked, I'll answer. I just didn't want to hijack this thread.

Leaving nuts and bird food out for the animals in the winter is a bad idea. What if you or everyone else forgot to feed them, would the birds, deer, squirrel, etc. remember how to hunt? Survival of the fittest. These aren't domesticated animals, they are wild. Let them be wild.
What about the bears that learn there is food to be had if they approach a car on the side of the road. Said bear doesn't get what he wanted, and attacks someone. Then the bear is being bad, and we have to put it down. What's the difference between the cute little squirrel you feed and the bear? The size? They are both wild animals.
Okay, enough said, just what I think. If you do leave food out, make sure you don't forget and let the container get empty. They are now depending on you.

I totally agree with your post except the last sentence, flyangel.

They DO become somewaht dependant but they arent gonna loosse their instinct. If that was the case why would a pet cat YEARN to be outside chasing birds?

The Animals may take the food b/c its "easy prey" but they wont use humans as the ONLY food soucre.

Just so you dont feel Im attacking you. I DO aggre that feeding animals isn't the best idea. but these animals live where there is a high human occupancy b/c of the trash we throw away. to them, its food.
then as time moves on they see that the humans will hand feed them and (generally) not hurt them. so they come to ya.
I totally love nature and it takes the thrill away when all the animals are "OK" with human presence.
ok. back to the critques:ph34r:

I'm not feeling attacked. I respect what you have to say.

I had had the camera for about a week at that point and hadn't played much with it.

There's no direct adjustment of the f-stop (it's a sony cybershot) but it does have an exposure value setting you can adjust to fix things like that. I'll be sure and play with it next time I get a subject like that.

/edited to add:

hey, fun toy. It gives you adjustments by 1/3s, and a pretty wide range of exposures.

Actually, what I had heard re feeding the birds is that if you keep a bird-feeder in the yard, you had better keep in full during the winter too. Some birds may decide not to migrate if they have a constant source of food.

Now the winters are harsh here in Ontario, but I have seen 'em stick it out.
