Your status as "newbie" as I understand it is determined by the number of posts you have made. It changes automatically as you reach each threshold. On the picture - just click the Browse button, locate your picture, make sure it shows the path in the directory, and make sure you see the radio button filled in at the right - Then select, "Make Changes" from by clicking on the button of that name on the lower right.
