pleifer 0 #1 January 27, 2004 Ok kind of serious post for me. Because i want to know the correlation between smoking and depression. not that this would be a "scientific approach" but this is just to satisfy my curiosity right now. I am actualy thinking of doing a paper on this for college. With all the "smoking" and "depression" threads. I thought this might be interesting. Also any ideas of different poll anwsers would be cool. wording ect.... _________________________________________ The Angel of Duh has spoke
KrisFlyZ 0 #2 January 27, 2004 I don't think any of the options fits my situation. Here are the facts. 1) I have been smoking for a month. 2) I smoked for a month to two months 2 years ago and then quit. I only smoke when I am depressed.
Michele 1 #3 January 27, 2004 Pleifer, I have had depression since about 9 years old. I started smoking when I was 17-18. I am clinically depressed, medication controlled. I don't think smoking is a causal issue, if that's what you're looking for. Perhaps it's an effect of situational depression, or transient depression, though. pleifer 0 #4 January 27, 2004 thanks for the reply that is actually the type of thing that makes an interesting twist.... I wanted to keep the poll options simple, but am very interested to hear others stories which I will share more about me after the voting has seemed to stop _________________________________________ The Angel of Duh has spoke

Nightingale 0 #6 January 27, 2004 there may be a correlation, but not a causation, I think. I've never smoked, but my brother was going through a rough time and picked up the habit. He quit when life got a bit better for him.
hmatousek 0 #7 January 27, 2004 I've reciently quit smoking and am finding myself incredibly depressed. I think that it has something to do with the winter as well but I have never been depressed and it is hitting me pretty hard. I just can't wait till it goes away, I hate feeling like this. EricaH 0 #8 January 27, 2004 That sucks to hear!! Good luck on staying quitting this time!! Welcome to the club! I started smoking when my life took a wrong turn. I recently quit (3.5 weeks). I've been depressed for teh same amount of time I smoked, but think the depression more caused the smoking, not the other way. No matter, recently my life's taken a better turn (skydiving included) & so I'm a little less depressed. But now that I've quit, I'm more depressed - like hmatousek, could have to do with winter blues I HATE WINTER!! but I've also noticed that I get drunk more easily. I use to be able to drink at least 1 bottle of wine before getting a buz. Now I have one glass in a 2 hr time frame & refuse to drive!! Don't knwo, kinda weird, but I gotta get tolerence back up before season starts!! There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear. hmatousek 0 #9 January 27, 2004 I say we should go get drunk and have a smoke tonight to make us happy!!!! Just kidding, I haven't been that good however. I just don't smoke during the week. This week has sucked so far for the depression.Life doesn't have to be perfect in order to be beautiful!
EricaH 0 #10 January 27, 2004 Quotehave a smoke tonight to make us happy don't i wish... but no, no smoking @ all for me. This weekend, I held an unlit cig for like 3 hours. Actually put it to my lips, pretended to take a drag & blew out the pretend smoke.... pretty sad, but it got me through the night @ a club where EVERYONE was smoking. There is no can't. dgskydive 0 #11 January 28, 2004 from experience here. Depression doesn't just go away if you are really depressed. It only gets worse.Dom
pleifer 0 #12 January 28, 2004 yea quitting smoking always seemed to give me more of the "down days" but after awhile...... the up days get better and better.... without smoking... and the down days are fewer and farther between. plus medication is goooood mmmmmm _________________________________________ The Angel of Duh has spoke

Ron 10 #14 January 28, 2004 All I saw was "pole smoking and depression" I thought..."Well if I was gay I'd be pretty damn depressed."
