Unbelievable?

Recommended Posts

Now I know some of my posts are controversial, that's the life a liberral leads... but someone recently accused me of being a liar, and not about politics, but skydiving.

I'm newbie, so I don't really know, is it so uncommon to be unbelievable that someone would drop two sizes from their original canopy during AFF? I mean, I was from a .8095 WL to a 1:1... does that shock you folks?

Never go to a DZ strip show.

Not in the slightest. I did very similar.

I'm not going to name names, that would be unkind. But a certain person thinks that I'm lying when I say that I jumped a 210 for levels 1&2, a 190 for 3&4, and a 170 for 5&6. I'm a skinny guy, that gets me to a 1:1 loading now. The guy accuses me of trying to lie myself into a tight-nit community, says he's gonna call my DZ and ask. I welcome him to, give him the names of my JMs. He just calls me a liar some more. :(:S>:(

doesn't seem all that unbelievable so long as you are not changeing type of coanopy (square to eliptical) as well

No, he accused you of being "bogus." Definition here.

I say this whole post is about you being right. It's childish, you know? Take it to him in pms, work it out in private, and handle it with some class.

A wingloading of 1:1 during AFF is probably uncommon, but not unheard of. I waited till I had over 100 jumps to go down to 1:1. I went through AFF at a loading of about .56, then bought a main with a loading of about .85. But some DZs start students on much higher loadings. Personally I'm glad I took it slow, but at the same time I'm sure I could have handled my current canopy just fine under MOST circumstances many jumps ago. It's actually considerably easier to land than my old canopy was. But I was glad to have a slow F111 canopy for a few off landings I've had.

Yes, he is right. But he was asking for advice, and that is the purpose of the forum (at least to some extent). He got his answer, so it's all cleared up. Move along..

Does anyone here handle anything with any amount of class?

Get over yourself.:)

Sadly, it doesn't shock me at all to learn about your canopy downsizing.

Why not? I read the incidents forum.[:/]

what he said.

from watching 2 landings (some of your very first landings at that) your jm ok's aff student to downsize? and then yet again after a few more?

hmmmm.... i would be less concerned with what dude calls you and more concerned with your health. it is kinda hard to believe. maybe you should wonder why.

be safER.

Benny:
Skye and I may be hijacking this thread, but there seems to be a greater issue than "liar" here. Frankly, we're concerned that you are telling the truth.

Can you see why?

Well, yes, and no. I understand why you say it, I've heard the bigger is better argument. But it's not like we're a talking about getting into high performance WLs here. I didn't ask to downsize, I didn't ask no to either. I trust the judgment of my JMs, they thought I was capable of handling the canopy. Well, I had a PLF on the 170 and one on the 190. I don't think they were anything to do with the size though. Fortunately I'm still here. I think I'll probably jump a 170 for a while now.

Please explain to me why so many DZ.commers seem to have their panties in a wad recently. If someone posts something you don't like, PLEASE ignore it and let it go. GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ!

Does anyone see the irony contained in my post? :D

And Benny, for the sake of staying on topic, I don't doubt that you were downsized so quickly. I talked to a couple of other people from your DZ over the weekend, and they had similar stories.

Thank you and goodnight!

Kelly

it probably had to do with both the size and the fact that you are really new to the sport and having to adjust to the smaller canopy while you are still learning to land. slap my face and call me stupid but i think students should concentrate on learning how to land without breaking stuff before they deal with smaller faster canopies.

i don't know. you may be just peachy under what you are flying. high wing loading is purely subjective quantification. i think what you are hearing is here is that on the surface it doesnt sound the most prudent course of action.

:)
this is not a troll. i am concerned.

Benny, i'm just curious. Which DZ do you jump at? What are the canopies you are jumping? Did the instructors give any reason as to why they were downsizing you so quickly?
