The raising of the USS Cole

Recommended Posts

Wow, cool pix. I had heard about how they did it, but never saw any sort of photo for it. Very interesting.

And saddening, too. What a hole in the side of it. 17 dead. Damn.

Those and many more have long been circulating within the military community. The close up ones are even more of an eye opener as to the damage caused.

Get this.
I got 2 older gentleman standing behind me after asking them if they heard of the "Raising" of USS Cole, they say it never sunked.
So, I finally figured out this is photos of them "Transporting" the ship..
At first I thought "raising" of the ship meant they raised it from the bottom..
That is not so..
Anyone else thought that?

I have worked on several military boats in the repair yard and I can tell you that the damage you see didn't even come close to sinking the ship.
They are built like an egg carton with many separate compartments and the hull is armor plate steel. I liked working on the military ships the best because they are usually cleaner than the cruise ships.

Blue skies to the fallen.
