redtwiga 0 #1 January 29, 2004 So, I'm leaving Feb. 13 to drive across the country. I'm basically taking route 40 the whole way and might want to stop along the road for a jump or 7. Are there any DZ's right off the highway or nearby? Are they open 7 days a week? Am I in the right forum? Does this blow the whole structural integrity of DZ.com? Thanks y'all. wingnut 0 #2 January 29, 2004 QuoteI'm basically taking route 40 the whole way wow did ya know rt. 40 is caled the national road?? have fun.... if you woul of said you were traveling on i-70 i could rcomend a few dz;s but alas.... you are not.... p.s. i-70 and rt 40 run almost parallel and if you are looking at speed on your trip you might want to think of 70... it does tend to vear north though where 40 stays south when you get more west in the u.s..... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"

redtwiga 0 #6 January 29, 2004 QuoteTake I-10. Theres a bunch of DZ's just a few miles off 10! I know, but my main destination is the Grand Canyon and aside from that, I'm trying for the shortest route, hence 40.
FallingILweenie 0 #7 January 29, 2004 If you take I-70 in Illinois you can hit Archway Skydiving Center in Vandalia.
bmcd308 0 #8 January 29, 2004 West Tennessee Skydiving is not far off I-40. It is several exits east of Memphis, but west of Jackson. Hit the link in my sig for directions. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

PhillyKev 0 #10 January 29, 2004 FYI....be prepared for lots of snow. The first time I drove cross country I flew to LA and drove back. Figured I was taking the southern route through the desert so wouldn't have to worry about winter weather. Boy, was I wrong. Lots of snow in the high desert, especially around the Grand Canyon. Got stock in some little town in Arizona for 3 days.

I will then proceed to Memphis to Elvisify. From there I will head to West Tennessee Skydiving where the wind will have picked up to an annoying 10 mph, but the temperature will have risen with it, to 80. By the time I get to New Mexico, Arizona and California, I will be in shorts and a tank top, cranking the AC and yodelling at top volume. Thank you and goodnight. TheAnvil 0 #13 January 30, 2004 I-40 is the most boring stretch of highway I've ever been on - especially between Nashville and the People's Republic of Memphis. Take some prozac. Hope to see you in H-town before I take off for Jax. Vinny the AnvilVinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! jahk 0 #14 January 30, 2004 Hate to burst your bubble, but....... I live within 3 miles of I-40 in Arizona. It was 15 degrees here yesterday morning. I don't have a map handy so I can't help you with exact numbers, but you might consider dropping south through New Mexico to pick up 10 west, hit the Phoenix area DZ's (including Eloy), then duck north again on 17 to get to the Grand Canyon. __________________________________________________Imelda Marcos just wanted some cute shoes that didn't make her feet hurt.
