Do you take your videos . . .

Recommended Posts

. . . to work and make everyone watch them.

Just had to show some cool chopper video from the other day - I was getting the feeling that it is getting - um, old hat for them - and they humored me quite nicely, but you could tell, you know - it was like they were saying " Oh, no, not again. . . "

Am I alone in this?

First jump videos are cool to show your family and friends.

Your first really big big-way (like +100) is also pretty awesome, because they'll just be blown away that people can do that sort of thing.

Keep the latest cool still photo on your desk, but don't point it out to everyone that just happens by. It looks far more cool if they ask you about it.

Showing stuff more often than that gets on their nerves.

Eventually, you'll get to the point where you don't even mention it in normal coversations.

Your whuffo friends will like you better when you get to that point.

Just a nice point to keep those videos coming, offer a beer or a couple dollars to the camera man when they do a dub for you, keeps em feeling appreciated. Anyway, as a camera man, I show some of my best around but not to much.

Umm...we can get ourselves videoed? :$:|

Hehe...I have no video of myself in freefall, I'd pay someone $1,000 right now that had video of my first AFF jump. So if anyone's out there reading this that's about to go through AFF, get video. You'll be glad you did.

I'll get video soon, I wanna see if my face flaps real bad. :D:P

Back when I was fresh off of AFF status, I didn't know if I'd ever get video of myself. My how times have changed. I still have way more footage of others (that's what I get for attaching that thing to my helmet), but I did recently pick up some good footage of myself (something that's nice to study as well as include in music videos).

I always felt that video of my tandem jump (which didn't happen, the video) was only useful if I made only that one jump. But something inside me said, this wasn't a one time thing (plus the $80 made me think twice). But AFF Level I is a tough call. It's a boring jump, but it's also your/our first jump (I didn't get video of this jump either). But if you stay in this sport long enough, you will start jumping with people who video the jumps. So bring along a spare tape to the DZ. You never know when you'll need to have a firewire party.

One more reason to be a freeflier. :P

As far as this thread is concerned, I selectively choose what I want to show my whuffo friends and colleagues. If you flood them with video footage (especially average jumps), they get bored. And when that bad ass jump comes along, they are less likely to be interested.

On a side note, I have just become motivated to start the first song of my second not-for-profit skydiving movie using the footage I got from the Eloy Holiday boogie. This video is going to rock (I learned many good techniques along the way) and the only thing I am Jones for right now is about 10 seconds of wingsuit flights from the boogie (3-4 clips ranging from 2-5 seconds each preferrably from DZ.COM wingsuit people at the boogie). I've already sent out a few emails, but if someone reading this and can help me, I'd appreciate an email with some attached AVI clips (2-5 seconds is all I need).

Excellant Steve.

I have just "lightly Brushed" the surface (not even a scratch yet) of Premiere 6.5. WOW, what a program. It only took me 8 hours to make my pre second tandem video.

I lurked the tandem - that was cool too, cuz the student saw me and waved - so I set up his footage, and added music - (looking back it needs to be a bit lighter - to metal)
and added my footage where she waved at me, so you get the distant perspective as well which was cool. You could also see how close the video guy was - so i ran the whole dive slow-mo- then in real time with a cut to the wave, and then a revisit in slow mo to help with the association.

Some day in the future (when I get my hands on a eval or pirated copy), I will look into using Premiere or Final Cut. But for the time being, I am using VideoStudio version 7.x from ULead and it does virtually everything I need to do to make a movie without the learning curve (mainly because I paid the price to learn the tool making my first flic).

It's hard work. But fun stuff and well worth the effort.
