falxori 0 #1 February 3, 2004 starting to plan a trip to the US, either to Fl, or Cali. my plan is to start with a few days in Las Vegas, make a lot of money, then spend it all jumping (Perris or Eloy are the options, feel free to suggest others.) anyway, my buddy has something against Vegas (don't know why) so i need some help... 1) beside car rental, are there any other ways to make the trip from vegas to the perris area (if we'll split up and he'll go there a few days in advance)? 2) he might be willing to go skiing while i'm earning an honest living at the BlackJack tables. i know there are a couple of slopes not too far away, any recommendations? help me out, or i'll be forced to go to miami and visit disney world (again... ) O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." jtval 0 #2 February 3, 2004 I may be able to help you out, in Vegas. there is a Dropzone..an AWESOME dropzone in mesquite( 1 hours drive north of vegas) depending on when you will be here we can take a ride up to Mesquite. if you cant make it there I may be able to drive out to perris with you and jump a bit( if youre here on a weekend) there is some mediocre skiing within 45 minutes of las vegas, at Mt. Charleston. Again it depeneds on what season you will be here etc... gimme some info and Ill see if I can help you outMy photos My Videos
falxori 0 #3 February 3, 2004 i thought you might... there is no "plan" yet, but i thought of spending the weekend at a local DZ (since vegas hotel rates jump during the weekends) then the week in vegas, and then drive to perris. are any of the DZs near Vegas open during the week? that would be great because i could "park" my friend there during the week shouldnt you be asleep now anyway? jtval 0 #4 February 3, 2004 Quoteare any of the DZs near Vegas open during the week? that would be great because i could "park" my friend there during the week Im confused you mean you want to stay for a week but youre friend (whoI guess jumps too) wont be happy unless he's high right? at this time there are no fun jumper friendly dz's in vegas that I would steer you towards. unfortunately there is one that will let you jump but I will NOT be jumping there for reasons of safety issues: they do not meet my personal safety standards and I will not let my friends jumps there with out at least letting them know WHY i wont jump there. MESQUITE is a kick ass dropzone that is just starting in the vegas area. they totally rock but until they can get steady business they wont stay open all year. (they are from utah) to tell you the truth I dont even know if the other dz is still open.My photos My Videos
falxori 0 #5 February 3, 2004 ok , i'll try to be clear... i'm supposed to arrive on April 2nd (friday). i was thinkin of jumping during the weekend at one of the local Dz and then spend the week in Vegas, and then head for Perris. my friend doesnt want to spend a few days in the city and would rather jump more or maybe ski. so i need to check the local options for him or a way for me to get to perris alone, if he'll be going there a few days before me. hope its clearer now O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." falxori 0 #7 February 3, 2004 sure thing, i'll let you know how it goes too. hope you don't talk as much as you PW, or it will be a loooooong drive cheers O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
skyyhi 0 #8 February 3, 2004 If JT is unable to get you to Perris the following weekend, you can take the train or, cheaper still, a greyhound bus to Los Angeles. You could then take a metrolink train to Corona or some other such point near Perris and the local jumpers (some of who will post here when they wake up (its only 5:20 a.m.) will probably be happy to pick up a sky brother. I'd offer but you would end up in Elsinore because right now that is where I am jumping. . .not quite ready yet to venture to Perris. . .________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy
nbblood 0 #9 February 3, 2004 Quotehope you don't talk as much as you PW, or it will be a loooooong drive ROFLMAO.....sorry JT that was funny. As far as Mesquite goes, if it helps any, the travel time to Mesquite as opposed to the "local" DZs at Vegas is negligible, and Mesquite is much better. I agree with JT, wouldn't go to the Vegas DZs personally. Bus and train were good options....also might want to check airfares. You'd be surprised what you can fly in and out of Vegas for. Might be able to find a 1 way to LA for as little as $39 if you get the timing right. Check out Southwest Airlines, they've got those deals going quite a bit around that area. Just ideas. skyyhi 0 #10 February 3, 2004 Oh good one Nathan, I forgot about that. You would probably want to land in Ontario from Vegas. . .closer to most of the local skydivers and probably cheaper than flying into Los Angeles anyway. . .________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy
falxori 0 #11 February 3, 2004 thanks everybody. i've thought about the "fly to Ontario" options but i'm not sure i'd like to risk taking another flight with my rig, i'm taking 4 flights already... currently its either renting a car or finding our way with trains and buses (and local skydivers ) O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." Nightingale 0 #12 February 3, 2004 Personally, I'd advise flying. Southwest has been pretty good about rigs, from what I've heard, and I flew to vegas a few weeks ago from Ontario for $59.00. I checked the greyhound and they're $38.00 from Vegas to Los Angeles. Direct only. You can't get off in San Bernardino, you have to go two hours past and get off in LA. Then, you'd have to either: 1. find a ride from downtown LA to the DZ, or 2. take the train to san bernardino or riverside, and then find someone to come get you. Either way, a pain in the arse.
