Active DZ Recruiting

Recommended Posts

I can't help it, I love talking to people about coming to jump at our DZ, and I've met with more than limited success.

I know that there have been other posts explaining the various levels of enthusiasm in this sport, but how many people, regardless of experience, still actively recruit for their DZ?

I voted for recruiting options except the first one "I try and recruit new jumpers everywhere I go" - the restroom never seems to be a good place ;).

I try not to do any recruiting. It just means more people at the DZ and longer waits to manifest. Kind of like skiing, I hate waiting in the lift lines.

Well, the adult in me (or what passes for one) is fairly rational about when and where to recruit, but the kid in me (99.99999%) is ecstatic about sharing the incredible sensations I get from skydiving with the world. :DB|

Yeah, the bathroom...not sure I would EVER recruit there: "Hey, sounds like you've got a good flow going there. Want to skydive?" :P:D

I pretty much will tell anyone (including the Fed Ex and UPS delivery drivers that come to my work) about my skydiving adventures. I even take brochures from the office to give people who might actually be serious. . .Course I am a newbie and REALLY EXCITED about getting to jump out of planes still. Like this weekend for instance at the Elsinore Instructor Burn-Out Boogie. . . .oops, I digress. . .sorry!

Yes, I actively recruit for my DZ. I talk to everybody about skydiving. I know I'm still new to the sport, have "A" License with 33 jumps, so far, but I know that I will be doing the same thing when I am a grizzly veteran, with big numbers of jumps under my belt. When I get enthused about something, especially something that I love as much as I do skydiving. I remain that way, enthused! I'll always be a recruiter for my dz. I agree with you on this one Kevin!

Yes it is a great cause, HOWEVER, I was mostly excited because I have money to be able to do more than a couple jumps. . .(student status still). So see, I wasn't really hijacking, just getting excited for the weekend. . .

That's EXACTLY what I was looking for. I'm the same way. I'm passionate about this sport, and I can see myself recruiting for a good, long while. B|

Yup, if someone even looks at me funny or sideways or accidentally nods in my direction I tell them how they should go skydiving.
Last spring during a 10 mile run, I actively recruited 3 people that were next to me for any lenght of time!

There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear.

Me too. I will have my tax refund by then, and I will be a jump-ing-fool. Uh, a SAFE, jumping fool. :PB|

I'm especially trying to find more girls to jump with...4-way girls team would be much fun!!

I hear you there. . .course, I better wait till I am off student status. . .I think there are rules about that sort of thing. . .:P

I firmly believe that there are some people who will never want to skydive. They shouldn't do it and I will not waste my time trying to "change their mind.

If, however, a person is interested, I will gladly explain our sport to the best of my ability and encourage them to try it.

This is a sport of passion and it is hard not to be passionate about it. Even after twenty years!;)

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't try to change anyone's mind if they DON'T want to jump (i.e. my brother, father, etc). I just spread the word and the contact info and let them decide if they want to give it a shot. Went into a Sam Goody to buy a movie and wound up leaving a couple of stickers from the DZ there. Five people have called to schedule jumps from there since then. B|

Remember...for every 30 ppl that say there going too....your lucky if one actually does[:/].....last year I had 10 come do the FJC......damn I must have hounded alot of pplB|

On the bathroom thingy.....dont ask me how(I was quite drunk) but I did manage to start up a jump convo.......amasing how a 30 sec drunken peeeee can turn into a 45 min recruiting convo;)

I'm guessing that drunken recruiting in the bathroom is more common than people let on. :PB|
