McDuck 0 #1 February 3, 2004 I can't help it, I love talking to people about coming to jump at our DZ, and I've met with more than limited success. I know that there have been other posts explaining the various levels of enthusiasm in this sport, but how many people, regardless of experience, still actively recruit for their DZ?Kevin - Sonic Beef #5 - OrFun #28 "I never take myself too seriously, 'cuz everybody know fat birds don't fly." - FLC Online communities: proof that people never mature much past high school. CanuckInUSA 0 #2 February 3, 2004 I voted for every option except the first one "I try and recruit new jumpers everywhere I go". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Brains 2 #4 February 3, 2004 I tend to recruit most heavily at Hooters After that, anywhere that has cute waitresses. Hmmmm, that reminds me, i need to get back on the tandem thing. . . . flyangel2 2 #6 February 3, 2004 I try not to do any recruiting. It just means more people at the DZ and longer waits to manifest. Kind of like skiing, I hate waiting in the lift lines.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. McDuck 0 #7 February 3, 2004 Well, the adult in me (or what passes for one) is fairly rational about when and where to recruit, but the kid in me (99.99999%) is ecstatic about sharing the incredible sensations I get from skydiving with the world. Yeah, the bathroom...not sure I would EVER recruit there: "Hey, sounds like you've got a good flow going there. Want to skydive?" skyyhi 0 #8 February 3, 2004 I pretty much will tell anyone (including the Fed Ex and UPS delivery drivers that come to my work) about my skydiving adventures. I even take brochures from the office to give people who might actually be serious. . .Course I am a newbie and REALLY EXCITED about getting to jump out of planes still. Like this weekend for instance at the Elsinore Instructor Burn-Out Boogie. . . .oops, I digress. . .sorry!________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy

lawrocket 3 #10 February 3, 2004 I used to, but as I grew out of having a crush on skydiving and moved to respect and love of the sport, I quit marketing it. Other know of my skydiving. They know to talk to me if they are interested. My wife is hotter than your wife.
Lee03 0 #11 February 3, 2004 Yes, I actively recruit for my DZ. I talk to everybody about skydiving. I know I'm still new to the sport, have "A" License with 33 jumps, so far, but I know that I will be doing the same thing when I am a grizzly veteran, with big numbers of jumps under my belt. When I get enthused about something, especially something that I love as much as I do skydiving. I remain that way, enthused! I'll always be a recruiter for my dz. I agree with you on this one Kevin!-------- To put your life in danger from time to time ... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities. --Nevil Shute, Slide Rule

Yes it is a great cause, HOWEVER, I was mostly excited because I have money to be able to do more than a couple jumps. . .(student status still). So see, I wasn't really hijacking, just getting excited for the weekend. . .________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy

EricaH 0 #14 February 3, 2004 Yup, if someone even looks at me funny or sideways or accidentally nods in my direction I tell them how they should go skydiving. Last spring during a 10 mile run, I actively recruited 3 people that were next to me for any lenght of time! There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear. ripcords 0 #19 February 3, 2004 I firmly believe that there are some people who will never want to skydive. They shouldn't do it and I will not waste my time trying to "change their mind. If, however, a person is interested, I will gladly explain our sport to the best of my ability and encourage them to try it. This is a sport of passion and it is hard not to be passionate about it. Even after twenty years!
McDuck 0 #20 February 3, 2004 Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't try to change anyone's mind if they DON'T want to jump (i.e. my brother, father, etc). I just spread the word and the contact info and let them decide if they want to give it a shot. Went into a Sam Goody to buy a movie and wound up leaving a couple of stickers from the DZ there. Five people have called to schedule jumps from there since then.
