Kramer 0 #1 February 3, 2004 I'd like to get a job packing this summer. I just learned not long ago, so I'm not anywhere close to "fast" yet. But I learn quick, so no major worries. Anyway, just thought I'd throw this out there in case there's any DZOs who don't have any packers lined up for the summer. PM me if interested or if you have any info on a job. Thanks! -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!!
ACMESkydiver 0 #2 February 3, 2004 Kramer, I'M looking for a packer... Go ahead and move over here to the NW and I'll pay ya to pack my rig every time I jump... Hope you can live on $20/week!! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
McDuck 0 #3 February 3, 2004 Not fair! I had to use my new-found coughing skills to cover my laughter! $20/week. That's only one jump per week. NOBODY can live on that...except in extreme survival situations. ACMESkydiver 0 #4 February 3, 2004 Now normally I wouldn't dare come in and try to hijack a thread from a young man seeking gainful employment...but since you asked for PM replies for professional opportunities... What's up, McDuck? I thought for sure I'd catch you with my trolling thread... ...guess I need to re-cast...~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. gerryfuss 0 #7 February 3, 2004 You can come live with me and pack my lunch every day. Oh wait , you want to pack parachutes. Did you buy that gear yet? as soon as you do practice packing with it. You will definatly improve with practice.
Kramer 0 #8 February 3, 2004 QuoteDid you buy that gear yet? as soon as you do practice packing with it. You will definatly improve with practice. Yeah, actually I did, thanks for askin. I won't have it for a few more weeks, Phreezone's puttin her together for me. But once I get it, I plan to practice packing on it to get faster. It's an F111 too, so it'll be easy as hell to get in the bag (or so I'm told). Nice rig to learn on I guess... -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!! kansasskydiver 0 #9 February 3, 2004 Yes but then I bump into you at the dz, I throw down my Xfire2 with 20 jumps on it, and all your training on a f111 isn't going to help you because you've been spoiled. best thing to do is start packing a brand new PD canopy, slippiest suckers i've ever seen. You'll have a lot to learn too about canopies, how each one packs, roll the nose, don't roll, elipticals etc. Packing it's something to just jump into. It's different if you're packing for yourself, but when you're packing for others it is much different. The Classifieds list some places looking for packes, check it out up on the top right<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist!

I was taught by 'bean' on his Stilletto 150. It's a pretty new canopy, and I know I have nothing to compare it to, but I doubt there are a whole lot of other canopies out there that could've been harder to get in the bag. -Kramer The FAKE KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER!!!!!!!!! Dude, that's not a 'pretty new canopy', trust me. It's nice to learn on though, it's got a packing hole. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. Stacy 0 #14 February 4, 2004 errrrm... i think beans stiletto has quite a few jumps on it.... He's had it for at least 2 years and the previous owner was an active AFF instructor... you may not be very happy with a *real* new canopy....
SkydiveNFlorida 0 #15 February 4, 2004 Not to mention people like me with canopies that are too large for their containers/dbags. I don't know what the policies are there, cuz I pack my own... but, you gotta be ready for that, too, i'd suppose. When I first learned to pack it was on Jumpnkramers 2nd rig (not the one he jumps) which probably fits a 170 or 190sf parachute and I was putting a 150 in it with problems. I thought it was the hardest thing ever! By the time I finally got decent at it (read 25 minute pack jobs), I got my own container and parachute and then I was stuffing a 150sf zp with 200 jumps in a dbag for a 135sf canopy and a jav tjn. Talk about a pita! It still takes me 15-20 mins to pack depending on if i'm in a rush. You'll need lots of practice. But, determination will get you there i'd think. Good luck! Angela. SkydiveNFlorida 0 #18 February 4, 2004 Quotedo you know how to flat pack or roll pack? I need someone here in elsinore to pack my bigass 370. Is this directed at me? I am in Florida my friend, and there is no f'in way you're gonna get me to pack a 370sf parachute, lol! You're gonna need a tandem packer to pack that mother. I bet it'll cost ya 8-10$ to get that bad boy packed. If I were you, i'd get to practicing, cuz it'll get expensive quick if you skydive a lot. Oh, and, no, I do not flat or roll pack. I only pro-pack, and I might remember how to psycho pack, is that a roll pack? Me, i'd have to be mighty out of employment to take up packing for $$... that is hard work! Angela. kansasskydiver 0 #20 February 4, 2004 QuoteI thought I remember him telling me he just -Kramer that doesn't mean it was new... All I'm saying is, training on a f111 won't be as good as working with a rigger and packing under his supervision. No offense but I wouldn't want a newbie packing my rig when I'm jumping a camera and a hard opening, line twist etc could be bad news. I am only offerring my advice, not trying to veer you away, just saying that you shoudl work under a riggers suppervision first before trying to get a job for yourself as a packer. WFFC is a great place to learn. Had a buddy make around $1000 packing under rigger supervision Just my .02 cents on the ordeal<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist! ChasingBlueSky 0 #22 February 4, 2004 You would make more money if you went to a DZ that doesn't charge your for a spot on the packing mat or uses a concession for the sport jumpers (both stupid ideas for everyone). Find a busy DZ that allows anyone to pack on the sport jumper side and get there at the start of the season. Start getting regulars and word will get out. By the time the season hits full stride you will be a fast and reliable packer with hands that hurt until Friday. If you can find someone that is willing to oversee you, that is even better. Only do concessions if you are doing student gear - anything else is a ripoff and stealing money from your pocket. If you make a good enough reputation you may get tested out to pack student gear and possibly make more money in a day by being able to do both. You have a few months - better start practicing now - most jumpers will not wait 25 minutes to have their canopy packed. Get it under 15 minutes for the start of the season - by mid season you should be down to 10 minutes a pack, end of season will be 5 minute pack jobs. Also, don't ever expect to jump, good packers don't get much airtime. One of these years I will do more jumps than I do pack jobs. Oh, this method worked for me. (hint - PM me if you can't figure it out)_________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... Kramer 0 #23 February 4, 2004 Wow, thanks for the advice man. It is certainly appreciated. I've got a few months to practice packing, it'd be sweet if I could get it down pretty fast before ever getting paid to do it. Practice makes perfect...
