SkydiveMonkey 0 #1 February 5, 2004 I want to start learning these as part of my final year project starting next year. Can anyone recommend some good books / websites to check out? Cheers !! ____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
vdschoor 0 #2 February 6, 2004 First of all the respective websites of these tools: www.php.net www.mysql.org www.apache.org What helped me get started on these are the Wrox books on this subject. Take a look at Professional PHP programming It assumes you already know how to write code, but I think that should work out for you. Other than that, read the articles on Devshed.com there is one really good one on the setup of all these tools, compiled into the Apache webserver on a linux / freebsd box. The document can be found here Iwan
AggieDave 6 #3 February 6, 2004 In a past life, when I was an IT guy, I knew that any book with a pencil/line drawing of a wild animal would be a good read.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
pilotdave 0 #4 February 6, 2004 I agree. I'm DEFINITELY no expert, but I was able to at least get php to talk to mysql with an apache server. It might have helped on the SQL end that I do a lot of database stuff at work, which includes writing SQL queries, but as far as the setup and integration with html, the online documentation will definitely get you started. The animal collection is indeed the best source out there.. but a lot of times I find they are slightly harder to read. The Wrox book on PHP is the only Wrox book I have because it is a very good book, pretty much all my other books are O'Reilly books Iwan
indyz 1 #6 February 6, 2004 PHP.net has a good tutorial on installing the whole shebang on Linux. If you are on Windows, you should be able to find PHP-enabled Apache with MySQL support as binaries, then just install the MySQL binaries.
NZL60 0 #7 February 6, 2004 well.. if your approach style is anything like mine.. and vd's by the sound of it, you clear a weekend - preferably when the forecast is lousy anyway - ya get the Wrox books, sit down in front of a computer and start at chapter 1, line 1 Who said Kiwis can't fly?
