Legalize it! Heroin that is...

From the BBC:

North Wales Police Chief Constable Richard Brunstrom says he is prepared to see drugs such as heroin openly on sale because current drug laws are doing "more harm than good".

Police chief says legalise heroin

Personally I think this is a great idea and this this police officer is very brave. If here were in the US, I can imagine he would have already lost his job.

It would mirror what the UK had up until the 70's I think, and the US had into the 20's.
Legalized Heroin was at one time given with a prescription. Junkies could go and get their fix once a day or so, and then live a normal life. They didn't have to find ways to support their lifestyle; they became useful members of society It also kept the number of addicts down. If I remember, a few years before the US got involved in the UK's drug program, the number of addicts doubled from 3000 to 6000 in a decade or so. While there were an equal number of addicts living in New York. No risk of infection either.
But then the US got involved and it all went to hell.

is there any one that thinks about shooting dope, but then says.....oh shit....it's against the law? ....better not. maybe one or two, but prohibition has no place in a free society. does making it illegal help? how? i think the shits real dumb, don't get me wrong, but i don't give a fuk who uses it.

.......but, heroin and illegal drugs are too big a bussiness to get ride of....no not selling them ...making them illegal is the big bussiness. everyone loves a good war. so they give us the war on drugs...but the drugs don't shoot back. .and how can you eliminate drugs. you go to a prison. walls all around, gaurd towers, one way in and out, and ran by some government,.... and they can't even keep drugs out of there. so why are they wasting their time and our money trying? .......

oh thats it our money.....our money for judges to try the cases, our money for cops to enforce the rules, our money for prisons, our money for politicians to sit around snd make all this shit up......it's just a scam right? he he he he

Heroin users are stupid. Guess what I think about this post?

That was deep! So are users of any/all drugs?

Prescription and non?
Organic or synthetic?

Claritan can clear your sinuses- hence make you feel good, but it does have risks and side effects as well. Are users stupid too?

What about insomniacs who take sleeping pills? Antidepressants?

I'm really jaded. big time. Knew a (heroin user) that left a good friend of mine knocked up at the ripe old age of 17, ruined her body and her future, and died on her with a needle in his veins. I can safely say that you'll never find me in a car or in a shower or on the lawn dead from a heroin O.D.

O.D. O.D. O.D. O.D.

junkies do make for great movies and music though, even though they're stupid.

Accelerate hard to get them looking, then slam on the fronts and rollright beside the car, hanging the back wheel at eye level for a few seconds. Guaranteed reaction- Dave Sonsky

I do the safe stuff, like tearing ligaments skydiving and washing my prescribed Vicodin down with Sierra Nevada Pale Ales

I've had some very good friends of mine recover, and others die fron it. Are they stupid? No! They made a decision, took a risk, and accepted the consequences...

Sounds a little like..... SKYDIVING?

Has risk...
Make you feel good....
Can affect the lives of people around you...

Are we stupid? I call it living!

Oh yeah... both are expensive as hell, as well!!!:D

I was in an abusive relationship with a heroin addict. I found out too late. It cost me several thousand dollars (of which he stole from me to feed his habit) as well as extensive emotional and physical abuse to my person. I have no tolerance or sympathy for drug abusers and legalizing such drugs as heroin is a grave mistake IMHO.

Why would that be a mistake? If drugs were legal then we'd be more likely as a society to help drug users rather than condemn them.

I've witnessed first hand what heroin abuse does to people. Even if it were legal it would still be abused.Like I said..this is IMHO.

Do you feel the same way about alcoholics? Perhaps they wouldn't be alcoholics today if alcohol were illegal.

My dad is a recovering alcoholic.Theres a history there too.

I didnt say all drugs were bad,nor all drug users were bad, nor that they should all be condemned. Its the blatent abuse I disagree with.Again, thats my opinion not my argument.

1. It's time to stop screaming troll at everyone. Arguing about crazy opinions is half the fun of the forums for me.
2. If drugs were legalized and taxed heavily, illegal dealing would probably continue due to simple economics. Furthermore a bunch of hard drugs would suddenly be available to anyone over a certain age assuming they have the money. If we can take any hints from the control of cigs and alcohol, we know that they will also become available to people below the age limit fairly rapidly. Obviously they are currently available if you know the right people, but I don't think that anyone will argue with me when I say that legalizing will increase this availability. So now maybe we have more people experimenting with them, and you know what, they become addicted! Now you're running out of money to buy them legally and pay all that tax, so who do you turn to? That's right, back to the dealers, who now will probably be virtually immune from prosecution on the basis of possesion, while I'm assuming they could still be caught in the act of selling illegally, but of course this will carry a lesser penalty now. So on the bright side, business may actually get better for your average dealer. Now here's where it gets good. Suddenly the illegal drug business is booming, and since ppl are less likely to receive 20 year sentences for smuggling the goods in from Mexico and Columbia, it starts to seem all the more lucrative. Suddenly there's a huge demand for skydivers to jump into the country, and we're all staring in Cutaway:ph34r:, and skydiving becomes a profitable profession. So ya, I'm all for legalization.

I agree. Legalize all drugs. Tax the hell out of em to fund rehab centers.

Actually, I kind of agree too. I'd go one step farther. Sell in the grocery store, put the corner dealers out of business, undercut them. Get rid of the drug deals on the streets that are so much of a problem too.

Of course, this sounds simple and it isn't, but hell, it's not like we're gonna get rid of drugs........ever, so why not regulate them, tax them, put the drug dealers out of business. My personal choice would still be to stay away from the shit, but that's me.
