You mean after 4 years of NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND.. and we still got stupid children.. what the hell is up with that shit?

Blame Kennedy, he wrote the bill. :P

Oh yeah, and it's only two-years old anyway... :S;):D

LMFAO. Andy-1, Vinny-0 in this thread. Yet another Bush-ism. I don't think it's going to be the last.

Jeanne, 'tis odd you should criticize the act authored in large part by Ted 'The Bottle' Kennedy. Do you have a Kopechne in-law or something?

No Child Left Behind (NCLB) was in large part a HUGE give-away by GWB and really ticked me off quite a bit. It DID get one thing though - mandatory testing. Now that a testing metric is in place, over the next few years we're going to be able to track what school districts are doing better and vice versa. That was the key portion of the act, as far as conservatives are concerned. The rest is just throwing more money at a problem money can't fix.

IMO the nation's educational woes can't be fixed by money. I also believe this the responsibility of state and local governments rather than the federal government - and MOSTLY the responsibility of parents.

Hmmm not what it says.. here

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/01/20020108-1.html

And I'm signing this bill here because it's the home of the Chairman, John Boehner. (Applause.) John did a really good job. He shepherded the process. He made sure people showed up for the meetings. He was dogged in his determination to get this bill done. It would not have happened without his leadership. And all four of these members up here need to be proud of the legacy they have left behind. This is a good bill for the American children, and I'm proud to sign it in their presence. (Applause.)

You sure it wasn't a lobbyist?

Positive. Technically, Kennedy was a co-author and primary sponsor of the bill in the Senate. Rep. Boehner (OH) was the author in the house, with about 80 co-sponsors.

And then, of course, there's Senator Edward Kennedy.  And the folks at the Crawford Coffee Shop -- (laughter) -- would be somewhat shocked when I told them I actually like the fellow.  (Laughter and applause.)  He is a fabulous United States senator.  When he's against you, it's tough.  When he's with you, it is a great experience.  (Applause.)

The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed in the 1990s that Saddam Hussein had an advanced nuclear weapons development program, had a design for a nuclear weapon and was working on five different methods of enriching uranium for a bomb.

The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.

Our intelligence sources tell us that he has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons production.

Saddam Hussein has not credibly explained these activities. He clearly has much to hide.

BTW, I had to pull this quote from his 2003 State of the Union Address off of the Washington Post and CNN web sites because, oddly enough, a transcript of it no longer exists on http://www.whitehouse.gov/stateoftheunion/2004/index.html.

The White House is trying to scrub the web site clean. The link on the 2003 web page for the State of the Union Address conviently redirects to the transcript of the 2004 speech. Go ahead -- try the link! You'll notice the 2002 speech is intact, but you can ONLY get a summary of the 2003 speech from whitehouse.gov!

Thank god for the Fourth Estate and talk about f'in revisionist history!

You always change the thing you test, and in ways that are unpredictable. Testing is NOT the answer. More and better trained teachers who know their subjects is the answer. No more physics classes taught by the football coach.

Notice that that pattern of his speeches always address the war, terroism, 9/11 for close to 2/3 of his speech and any domestic topics are shoved in together at the end?

That's why I like to check the following site from time to time. It keeps a record of press releases and clippings that mysteriously get altered shortly after being released.

I grew up in his district. He nominated me for the Air Force Academy. He always supported me when I needed a letter of recommendation. Too bad I never could vote for him, even when he ran unopposed. I just can't agree with any of his politics. Typical.

Well, that is quite ovious they are being treated just like his:

- All his records of his tenure as the Governer of Texas.

- All SEC records of investigations into GWB or bankrupt companied he was associated with are unavailable for viewing.

- All records and minutes of GWB and the VP of meetings regarding public energy policy.

You reminded me my mother went to high school in the town he runs in South Carolina, and I reminded him that she graduated. (Laughter.) Like her son, barely. (Laughter and applause.)

Actually, I believe that the answer is parents who allow teachers to do their jobs. Just watch any of these television shows with kids on it. American Idol, for example, where the kid truly sucks, but the parent will defend the kid and call the judges idiots. If a teacher fails a kid, or disciplines a kid, the asshole parent will confront. Thus, teachers CANNOT do their jobs. Thank you, Great Society.

Teachers do the best they can, but the families screw the kids forever. In fact, I'd like to see laws scaled back, or passed, to grant immunity to school teachers from lawsuits for a number of things.

p.s. I'd love to have Marv Levy be my English Professor.
