Guest #1 February 7, 2004 I know 70-215 is a creampuff (and I didn't even have to take it for the MCDBA), but I'm glad I did. One down, three to go (Win2k Infrastructure [70-216] and the MCDBA exams [70-228/9]). I've had a tough week so now I'm gonna crow a little...*CAW!*...okay, I'm done now... mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." I'm hoping to make CCIE by the end of the year, need 4 more tests and a lab
ChasingBlueSky 0 #4 February 7, 2004 Congrats! Well, you could always get your MCSA as well as your MCDBA. Good luck with 229 - it has one of the highest failure rates of any of the MS tests.....but don't forget it is the one test that is required for many of their certs. I think that 216 is second on the failure rate - just make sure you can create a network scheme easily!_________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I can't even imagine what the CCIE-Level stuff is like!!! Oh well, the Rev 3 CCNA studies were excellent prep for CompTIA Network+, which I DID pass! mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." I can't even imagine what the CCIE-Level stuff is like!!! Oh well, the Rev 3 CCNA studies were excellent prep for CompTIA Network+, which I DID pass! I recently took and passed my CCNA. I'll be getting CCDA next week, CCNP, CCDP in the next month or so. CCIE written in the summer. I've been working with Cisco IOS, IP, Routing (BGP, OSPF), Switching (MPLS, Ethernet) for amost 10 years now. I know the tech, I just need to know the specifics of the tests. I should be able to get CCNP without too much difficulty, CCIE is going to be a bitch but I have enough Cisco stuff in my network now that I should be able to work through all of the lab problems. Ultimate goal is to become a Certified Silver Partner which requires 2 CCIE, 1 CCDP, 1 CCNP, 1 CCNA, 1 CCDA. My ops manager (working with me for 7 years) has taken the CCNA test twice, almost passed it both times. Hopefully he'll get it next week. CCNA is a bitch because you need to know a little bit about a lot of topics. CCNP testing is more focused, it should be easier to study for. I'm scared of the Microsoft tests, put me infront of a router or a Linux box and I'm at home. Put me in front of a Windoze box and I just keep clicking until it works
Guest #7 February 8, 2004 hehehe My experience is the opposite - I don't have a lot of hands-on with Cisco (almost none at all!), and yes, you have to know more than just a little on a LOT of stuff to get thru the CCNA. They've really made it tough. Wish I'd taken it when it was still at Rev 2 Oh well. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." skreamer 1 #8 February 8, 2004 CCNA was far harder than any Microsoft exam I ever took (I only passed on third attempt). Getting MCSE (NT4) was too easy, I took the W2K Pro exam and was surprized how easy that was. Definitely have respect for the Cisco qualifications, never heard of a paper CCNP or CCIE. But what do I care, I'm getting off the hamster wheel that is Microsoft certs and getting out of IT - no more support work for me. Will
Guest #9 February 8, 2004 The CCNA Rev 3 is without a doubt the hardest IT test I've ever taken. I'm sick of being a techno-Sysiphus, but career-wise, I don't have a lot of options. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." ChasingBlueSky 0 #11 February 9, 2004 Mark - as a reminder you have to retake your Cisco certs every three years - so you would have taken Rev 3 eventually. As said above - I tend to have a bit more respect for Cisco certs - every CCIE I know deserves what they get paid. There really isn't a way to be a paper-CCIE like there is for MCSE. MCDBA is a bit different - if you have never done DB Dev before, 229 is a biotch!_________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... And they are kinda easy, I have yet to fail one - including the accelerated exam 70-240.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
Guest #13 February 9, 2004 The only MSFT test I've failed was the WinNT-to-Win2k freebie upgrade. Whotta pig that was. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
