freeflir29 0 #2 February 10, 2004 First thing.....GET OUT OF JERSEY!!!!! Seriously....if no one bites on picking you up it's easy to take the train into Manhattan or pretty much anywhere else you want to go. From most of the security exits you go right to get on the "Air Train." You can take that to connect to the other trains that go into the city. There's also lots of nice restaurants about 1-2 blocks from New Jersey Penn Station. Just ask one of the many cops standing around Penn which way to go. Too bad you won't be there on Thursday. I'll be there for about 2-3 hours myself. Prague.......hmmm.....I think I wanna visit there. I hear it's WAY fun! Oh...PS....I find it HILARIOUS that someone used the words New Jersey and Tourists in the same sentence. I've been from one side to the other and it ALL sucks. hottamaly 1 #3 February 10, 2004 Thanks, that's what I was looking for...something else to do other than sleep in the airport. It's not the best time of the year to go there, but the price was right. freeflir29 0 #4 February 11, 2004 Quote.something else to do other than sleep in the airport. I've been doing that for about once a week for a month now. Oh yeah.....if you are looking for a place to eat in the airport.....DON'T, I say again, DON'T go to "Ghallagers." It's STUPID expensive and I thought the food generally sucks! In Newark (1-2 blocks from Penn) there are a couple of nice bar/restaurants. One is "Fornos of Spain." I just had the shrimp appetizer and it was AWESOME! I think it was $10.95 but there were about 30 or more shrimp there and DAMN TASTY! Haven't had anything else there yet. I'll go again in about 2 weeks. There's also a Brazilian steak house just down from there. Don't remember the name. I only stopped in for a beer but the food looked GREAT. I don't know what time you'll be there....I'm guessing late afternoon....but do be mindful if you are walking around the Penn Station area. It's a train station in Newark.....there is ALL manner of unsavory looking people around but there are usually LOTS of cops IN the station at night. Just be watchful if you are out after dark. I always have my Gat on me so I think nothing of walking around there by myself but......ya know what I'm sayin.
hottamaly 1 #5 February 11, 2004 Thanks for the advice. It seems that's the way everywhere nowadays. Our flight leaves at around 5:00 pm so we will be back at the airport by 3:00 anyway. The shrimp thing sounds yummy, we'll go look for it. Have a good trip and when you come back into the customs just go ALL the way to the right side if you are a US citizen. That line is usually quick but the one getting out of the baggage claim can be long.

freeflir29 0 #8 February 11, 2004 Quote Coming back, we fly into JFK and will be spending the night in NY. Oh GOD!!!!!! Not JFK....from the frying pan into the fire. Here's a couple stories from some friends about JFK. Story #1 Scene: Two guys go to walk out the front door of the Doubletree just outside JFK. Concierge: Hey uhhh....can I get you guys a cab? Guys: No that's OK. We are just going for a walk. Concierge: No really.....where are you going? I can get you a cab. Guys: Really...it's OK. Just going down the street to get something to eat. Concierge: Are you guys cops? Guys: Yeah why? Concierge: Oh....you'll be OK I guess. Story #2 Another friend got to the hotel late and the restaurant was closed. He had seen a Kentucky Fried or something on the way in so figured he would walk down. Got the EXACT same conversation from the door man. He then proceeded a block and a half to KFC. Said he was propostioned by no less than 3 hookers and one crack dealer on JUST the way down. Moral is.....Jamaica, Queens isn't really a nice neighborhood. The Doubletree is RIGHT outside the airport so MAYBE your's will be closer to Manhattan and a nicer neighborhood.
Kennedy 0 #9 February 11, 2004 I'm born and raised in Jersey, and basically what Clay said is right on. There are some scary places in and about Newark, but just stay close to Penn and talk to the cops. The Brazilian place is the best I've ever had. A friend of mine from Orange took me there. Sooooo good. Ask a cop, they'll get you there. Have fun, stay safe, and rock the town in Prague. Oh, and stay away form street vendor hot dogs and philly chessesteaks. They're normally good, but I've had issues in that area. I suggest the salted pretzels w/ mustard though. Best around unless you make it to madison square garden. ps - when someone says Nork to you, they mean Newark. The last southerner I brought through couldn't keep up in a conversation. Kennedy 0 #10 February 11, 2004 oh christ, JFK. Take a cab. I don't care where, just take one. NYC is too much to even start to suggest things, but I will anyway. Start on 5th Ave way down. Just work your way up and wander about. Hit the Museum of Natural History if you're into that. Everything is in NY, NY. If you can't find, you're not looking.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
