kansasskydiver 0 #1 February 12, 2004 Ok I know it's kinda cold out and all, and that they electric company likes to jack the prices up during the winter months, but I just got my gas and electric bill from 1/7 thru 2/5 (keep in mind i was in Brasil until the 22nd) and it's f*cking $434.60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wtf?!?!?!?! I had the heat set at 45 while I was gone and since I've been back I haven't run it above 50! Problem too is that, I make oh about $550 a month and that's to pay for rent and bills and whatnot, ummm yeah I'm kinda screwed. Why don't they send a bottle of lube with the bill each month, assholes!<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist!
Skyrose7 0 #2 February 12, 2004 I would call the company, that seriously can't be right..~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose
DShiznit 0 #3 February 12, 2004 Bullshit!!! I have a 2000 sqft house, and my highest bill was $370 for one month, and that was with the A/C running constantly!!! Something isn't right, get that cleared up.
wingnut 0 #4 February 12, 2004 i second what mary has to say.. i now for the house i live in (old draft 1930's era) it only cost about 120 bucks a month for both gas and electric and the heat has been keeping the house a nice toasy 65 degrees all month of jan... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
DShiznit 0 #5 February 12, 2004 You have electric or gas heating? I have gas heating, and the highest bill I've ever gotten was around $100. I haven't a clue what electric heat runs.

billvon 3,120 #7 February 12, 2004 What was your kwh and therm usage? You can back-calculate the numbers to see if they are overcharging you. If they're not - insulation and setback thermostats will help with gas usage; compact flourescents and power strips will help with electric usage. (Plug computer 'wall warts' into the power strip and turn them off when not in use; this removes their phantom loads.) Electric heaters are the worst offenders. They cost 5-10 times what gas heat costs for the amount of heat they give off.
Casie 0 #8 February 12, 2004 I'd call them up & see what's up. If for some strange reason the bill is actually correct, I think they can set you up on a payment plan thing......check it out.~Porn Kitty WARNING: Goldschlager causes extreme emotional outbursts! jb092 0 #9 February 12, 2004 Look at your past bills and see if they have been estimating the usage. That happened to me in a 2 bedroom condo I had before. I was charged $300 for one month because they estimated low for a few before that. You can request that they read the meter every month so it doesnt happen again. What could possibly go wrong? kansasskydiver 0 #12 February 12, 2004 I have gas heating and electric everything else. Here is the break down of the bill Electric: 1824 KWH/MCF Gas: 32KWH/MCF ok now this is looking interesting Electric energy charge: $108.26 then tax etc and it adds up to 120.05 Gas energy charge: only $55.89 but then there is a ECA/COG charge of $234.97... wtf is that? Anyone know what ECA/COG stands for?!?! also, after the meter readings there is the letter E does that stand for estimate maybe? Whatever it is, it's this ECA/COG charge that is jacking up my bill<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist!
DShiznit 0 #13 February 12, 2004 $55 sounds about right for a gas bill, call the company.
cvfd1399 0 #14 February 12, 2004 I am Sofaking glad you brought this up. I just got a 90$ credit on my bill, and my friend who hasn't done anything different on his electric usage habits has to pay 150$ more than he usually gets. I am calling them and telling them to come check it every time, and not to do some lazy ass estimating on my SHIT! We shouldn't have to expect wild fluctuations in our electric bills. kansasskydiver 0 #17 February 12, 2004 I just talked to the company and they said the ECA/COG is the cost I pay to have the gas delivered to my location... I find this funny because while I was on hold they say "We are providing you with the best price possible by selling you gas and cost" Yeah at cost and then you charge $230 to get it out to us! In the end, the readings are estimated based off of what the guy who lived here years ago did. They are sending out a guy to do the readings today and get this shit figured out grrrrrrrrrrr both the gas and electricity were estimated<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist!
