skybytch 273 #1 February 12, 2004 Beaumont, Texas. Yes, I'm moving slowly. Coulda got out of Texas tonight but was seduced by the promise of free wireless high speed internet access at a motel. Sadly, that promise is going unfulfilled... I've had to resort to an insanely slow dial up connection. But it's better than last night in Fort Stockton, Texas... where there are no local access numbers for dial up. It's raining. It's been raining on me since last night. The van has excellent windshield wipers, and 8 levels of delay. I haven't been pulled over. I believe it is a law in west Texas that all pickup trucks must have large brush guards over the grill. Is four beers a nice tip for the maid?

Shotgun 1 #3 February 12, 2004 Hmm, Beaumont and Fort Stockton... sounds like you're seeing all the highlights of Texas! You really should have detoured to Austin... but then you might never leave Texas. Sorry I missed you while you were here. I've been a homebody lately... (though I did finally make reservations for the wind tunnel next weekend! :-) Have a safe trip back to FL, and don't have TOO much fun in Beaumont. flyangel2 2 #12 February 12, 2004 You are sure driving slow. When Renee and I called you yesterday, you were in Texas. Put some metal to that petal.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
ifics 0 #13 February 12, 2004 Yes, its a law to have a brush guard on every truck along with one of those antler skull sticker things on the back windshield... Sucks that the weather is so bad during you're visit, going to suck this weekend too AHHHHHHHHH!!!!
skycat 0 #14 February 12, 2004 Did you know Beaumont means Beautiful Mountain? I'm wondering where they are hiding the mountain. "In French, it is Beaumont. Beau; meaning beautiful, fair, noble, and mont; meaning mountain or hill."Fly it like you stole it!

Aviatrr 0 #17 February 13, 2004 Damn, you're movin slow woman! I left Cali(Edwards AFB) at 8am Pacific time on Monday, pulled into my driveway in Orlando at 1am Eastern on Wed night/Thurs morning. 2600 miles, 40 hours of driving, 40 hours of non-stop XM music(it's great not having to search for radio stations every hour), and 340 gallons of fuel used(shitty mileage, yes...but, hell, it's a big 'ole boxy RV).. It was great being able to drive til I was tired, pull over, sleep, then do it again. Mike
