100 hours of adventure!

Recommended Posts

If I close my eyes I can still see two long, thin ribbons of black stretching all the way to the horizon in front of me.

2600 miles in just under 100 hours - yes, I took my time ;) All but the last two hours were alone (picked my dog up when I was almost home). You get a lot of time to think when you spend almost 100 hours alone, on the road. Sometimes that can be a bad thing. Thanks to those who called me; you helped keep me on this side of the sanity line. :D

Some high(low)lights -

- Having a kick ass strong wireless signal every time I opened my laptop but being unable to get online with any of them.

- Seeing two AZ troopers pulling things out of a car on the side of the road as the vehicle occupants sat in the grass.

- Noting that my seatmates on both legs of my flight out were reading the same book. (okay, so that wasn't part of the drive back)

- Going out to breakfast with my kid. Twice. :)
- Watching the ground cover turn from dust and rocks to brown grass and dead looking trees to green grass and green trees.

- Mountains. Florida doesn't have them.

- Talking to Muenkel as I negotiated downtown Houston on the I10.

- Changing my mind 42 times whether I was going to stop in Gulfport or Biloxi and play craps. Decision was made when I realized I could afford to lose exactly $20. Not worth it. (sorry kreg!)

- Staying at the only motel left in the US that has a phone system incapable of handling a modem dialing out.

- Wondering just how close to "E" the needle would go. Didn't find out.

- Seeing blue skies in West Texas... then not again until I arrived home.
