kansasskydiver 0 #1 February 17, 2004 I finally got all the pics up! There are a bunch of pictures of the Amazon, new years and Fortaleza. They are in thumbs and then by clicking you can view and continue thru etc and see the larger versions. It was really an amazing trip, especially when the monkey attacked beavdog and decided to make him his bitch and tried to sleep with him lol enjoy Brazil 2003-2004 trip page<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist! kansasskydiver 0 #3 February 17, 2004 no i haven't... the story of this monkey was his mom turned into a drunk because the tourist were feeding it booze. so they took the mom to the other side of the river so she couldn't get back. so this baby monkey "shakiro" really liked men for some reason. Beav was walking down the catwalks (amazing hotel btw, miles of catwalks thru the canopy of the trees) at night and this thing just start running towards him. He didn't know what to do and just froze. He (monkey) crawled up him and just nuzzled under his arm. Stayed there wrapped around him most of the night. I later got attacked 2 days later sleeping in a hamock<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist!
freeflir29 0 #4 February 17, 2004 QuoteStayed there wrapped around him most of the night. Well.....he should consider himself lucky that the little guy only wanted to cuddle. I would really like to do a trip like that one of these days. I just don't speak more than two words of Portuguese. The only South American jungle I have gotten to see was either out the window of an aircraft or under "Less than tourist" circumstances. Make sure to see "The Rundown." It's entertaining and being that you were just in Brasil you'll appreciate it all the more.
jumper03 0 #5 February 17, 2004 I looked at the pink dolphin pic for 10 min..... I didn't see any pink dolphins. You sure they exist? JumpScars remind us that the past is real

kansasskydiver 0 #8 February 17, 2004 here's a better source, from espn too: http://espn.go.com/outdoors/general/columns/sutton_keith/1566152.html From the Publisher Scientists call them Inia geoffrensis, an ancient species of toothed whale whose origin dates back about 15 million years. To the local people of the Amazon, pink river dolphins are "botos," shape shifters that, in the guise of human desire, can claim your soul and take you to the Encante, an enchanted underwater world. As tributaries braid into a single river, Journey of the Pink Dolphins weaves ancient myth and modern science into one woman's search for these elusive creatures. Over four separate journeys, Sy Montgomery follows the dolphins, tracing their spiritual, historical, and environmental past, present, and future. Ancient legends tell us that dolphins have guided humans for millennia, and in Journey of the Pink Dolphins, Montgomery answers their call, taking us to that perfect place where the Amazon melts into the forest, dolphins swim among treetops, and the twenty-first century dissolves into the beginning of time.<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist! marcandalysse 0 #13 February 17, 2004 Lots of great photos, both of the wild animals, and the wild women. Where was New Years? Rio beach? or somewhere else? Great firework photos, and the candles on the beach looked like Yemanja offerings at Copacabana and other Rio beaches..... Were those apartment bldgs near where your family lives, in SP? The Fortaleza # 3 almost shows alysse's sister's apt bldg on Miereles Beach, she's a block or two from the start of the Nightly market. Liked the hugging monkey, poor guy needs loving...and the yellow blue arara macaw in flight was nice...all show a very fun time! Lots of mosquito bites for you guys on that big river boat trip??? kansasskydiver 0 #14 February 17, 2004 actually i got bit by 2 mosquitos the entire trip... Matt and Jill, well that's a different story New Years was actually in Sao Paulo, Guaraja. The buildings in front was the view of the beach we have lol Yep and we were on the edge of Iracema, Holiday Inn to be exact. We had a good time in Fortaleza, just didn't carry the camera around as much as we did in the Amazon. The clubs there though WOW that was one heck of a night. 3 dance floors, a HUGE open air area with 2 floors etc. Then, we lost Beavers lol. He made it back and tried to order food at 5am, oh and he doesn't speak any Portuguese. After about 30 mins of him on the phone with Habibs I finally took over and started talking to the guy, he didn't think it was funny, actually pretty pissed off at me cause I was sitting there listening to Beavers try to order. Then the dude hung up and Beav passed out lol good times good times<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist!

kansasskydiver 0 #16 February 17, 2004 i go back once a year and i'd do the amazon thing ina heartbeat! we thought it was kinda expensive when we first signed-up for it, btu sooooo worth it it was $100 per day per person. We were there Monday - Thursday and I think I spent $20 at the hotel. 3 meals a day, cooked infront of you, all the food you can eat self serve and EXCELENT too. Was better than the food we had in Fortaleza at our 5 star hotel. I'd like to do it again, but this time stay longer and do the cruise down the river too. check out the hotel: Ariau Towers<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist!
