What do you think of FIRE DANCING?

Recommended Posts

seems like you got hooked :)my advice: start without fire. learn the moves - they are easy if you find somebody to show you the basics. learn to play them blindfolded without hitting yourself. once you are succesfull at this you can start adding fire to your dance.

there's some great links out there (i'll pm them to you) to learn from

ps: the attached pics were take at the dz last summer

but some of the garments (Read: Lack Of Garments) for sensuality, as well as safety, wouldn't fit what I know of you so far.

I think that the garment thing is really up to me, but I could deal with less garments for something like this. I mean, I am not a nun, Clint!

In high school, I was part of the alternative crowd with the punkers and goths, but I was a cheerleader. I didn't care about "fitting in" with the cheerleader silliness. My dance tryouts had me with the highest dance scores, so I had that "coveted" head cheerleader position. Yawn, right? I know...I disliked the stigma of cheerleaders, but I loved the dancing, even though I was otherwise shy. Yes, I wore pretty skimpy outfits for that, too. Cheerleaders' briefs (basically a brightly colored panty) always are on display whenever we kick, jump, do the splits, etc.

I can deal with skimpy clothing if I love what I am doing. Anyway, I don't think that it is a requirement for fire dancing. I loooove everyone's comments, PMs and pics about fire dancing. Yes, I think that I may become hooked! I am checking it out no matter what on Tuesday! :)

I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama

LOL! Yes, but maybe just this part "...I am not a nun, Clint!"

Sorry for ruining my pristine "nun" image for you. You sound like my father...he was sooo disappointed (my mother told me) when he recently realized that I sleep over at my BF's home on the weekends. GOD, I am only 32!!! I have needs, too...geez! >:( :)

When I first think of fire dancing, I think of this Samoan hottie who lives on Oahu and works at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie. If you are ever on the island, make sure you spend at least one day on the North Shore or Mokuleia and make sure you spend another day visiting the Polynesian Cultural Center.

Go see the Samoan guy. He is in the Samoan village and he does the fireshow after the luau at the evening show.

Men who know how to handle fire are HOT! ;):$
Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires."

Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."

Ok, thanks everyone for all the PMs about fire dancing. You have all been so encouraging!

So, I wasn't feeling my best today. Nevertheless, I called the Fire Dancing Instructors and told them that I would meet with them tonight to buy the "Poi set", visit their studio, say "hello", but that I would wait until the following Tuesday to dance. They were encouraging, but explained that their studio, located in Hollywood, was VERY difficult to find. I said no problem. It turns out, even with explicit directions...I couldn't find the darned place!

I was upset earlier tonight, but now I am just laughing it off. Well, from the way that they warned me about how difficult it is to find the place, they will not be surprised that I got lost.

The worst part was that the studio is in a seedy part of Hollywood, and I couldn't find parking. Some "thuggish"-looking men were eyeing me and edging closer to the car, every time that I slowed down to find the address. The addresses on the buildings completely skipped numbers, and I couldn't find a rear entry either. I would have parked and investigated by foot, but I decided not to walk around in that part of town at night alone. Never again will I expose myself to any possible dangers. [:/]

Well, I just wrote an e-mail to the fire dancer instructors. They are pay as you go, so anyone can join in at most any time. I am still sooo excited...until next Tuesday! :)
