I went to the Chicago tri-service Ball last November. My date didn't cancel out on me, though.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. samyueru 0 #3 February 18, 2004 Yea, they're pretty awful for ROTC. Not nearly as much punch, or fun as they were in the real army!

Back in 2000, I was about to leave my Regiment, and I had convinced this gorgeous girl to come to my leaving dinner as my date. She seemed pretty keen, got time off work, spent ages getting a really nice dress... Anyway, the dinner was on the Friday, and on Monday afternoon I got a call from the Adjutant, who told me that I had 90 minutes to pack, get vaccinated and get my weapon and I was off to Sierra Leone that night! (this was when the Paras went in to get the British civilians out) I had to call this girl and cry off.... - to this day I am sure that she thought I didnt want her to come or something but anyway by the time I came back a month later she was seeing someone else... Lee03 0 #7 February 18, 2004 I'm sorry. I know how you feel. I have had the same thing happen to me on three different occasions in the past. It was for the Marine Corps Birthday Ball all three times. Once, the date cancelled the day of the ball, the other two times it happened the day before, hey, at least it happend three days in advance for you. I Know what you feel man, "been there, done that, got the t-shirt." Hopefully you can find a date before the ball. If not, just go to the ball, get you a bottle of whatever adult beverage you prefer, pull up a chair, sit back and watch the festivities and get drunk. Thats what I did each of those three times, and guess what? It didn't bother me what had happened, because I didn't care. Word of advise though. Make sure that you have someone to drive you home, a DUI in today's military will ruin a career, and you haven't even gotten started yet. Drink, but drink responsibly.-------- To put your life in danger from time to time ... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities. --Nevil Shute, Slide Rule

AggieDave 6 #11 February 18, 2004 Something similar to that happened to me when I was a senior in the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. I just tossed my uniform on and walked off the quad to the girls dorms, walked up to a group of girls and said I needed a date... See, at A&M we have whats called "boot chasers" seniors in the Corps wear custom made boots, with taps and spurs, its really really big deal. Anyways, it makes it very easy to 1) get a date as a senior and 2) get laid (trustme!)--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Rebecca 0 #12 February 18, 2004 Awww! I love Dining Out!! I went to every annual Air Force ROTC formal for 4 years in college, first and last years with a 'date' date, and the middle two with friends. Do you have an auxilliary service organization (comprising mostly females) or a good-sport female friend? Aggiedave's approach would probably work, too - what branch of service is it? Hell, just find some other dudes to go stag with... and don't forget to throw dinner rolls and tie all your napkins together under the table during the main speaker. Ooh - will there be a grog bowl? Don't sweat it. Just have fun. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?
