benny 0 #1 February 19, 2004 Just a question, mainly for those who jump for money, AFF-I, tandem-I, etc... Do any of you actually not have fun on even the work jumps? I mean, I know it's a job and us students can make it difficult at times but come on, it's jumping out of airplanes... If it weren't a hell of a lot of fun regardless, wouldn't it be pretty stupid to do? Never go to a DZ strip show.
freeflir29 0 #2 February 19, 2004 I'm not an instructor per se but I can tell you from limited experience that doing too many "working" jumps in a day can wear you out. After 4-5 coaching jumps in a day I need a break. It's fun and very satisfying when you see the "light" come on in the student but those jumps can be a lot of work. I remember a day not long ago when SD ATL had a CRAP load of tandems. Each instructor did 10-12 that on just Saturday. By Sunday there was damn near a mutiny. benny 0 #3 February 19, 2004 I understand what you're saying, we all need time with our "sheep" but are the jumps themselves, forget training, debrief, etc. ever not fun because it's a "work" jump? Never go to a DZ strip show.

It's more of a "I have to get EVERYTHING right because the student is paying, his life is in my hands, and ultimately......I and I alone am responsible for this skydive." Imagine you taking a student out and they get hurt. Even if they did something really stupid there's a part of you that will feel responsible. "Maybe I didn't train them enough....maybe I didn't cover everything....etc. So....it's fun but also a bit stressfull. Of course....Skydivers feed on stress...so......
