What can i expect to pay for a cheap car in the US?

Hey all,

Any idea of what i can expcet to pay for a used car/van in the US? Planning a trip later this year and it would be great to have something to get me from place to place. (And something that doesn't break the budget) It doesn't have to be tip top, long as it runs and is legal.

Around here, an inspected "beater" goes for $400.00 - $600.00

I drive a little Chevrolet Cavalier to the DZ and use it as a tow car behind my motorhome. Its present value is about $1500. I can go anywhere I want in it, reliably. So, you should be able to find something reliable for that or less. Of course there is no lower limit if you want to fix it regularly.
